For when you smart TV won't cope
My brother ordered it, had it a few months now, purchased because it understands codecs that his TV won't, also his TV won't read the format drive he has. It's his "go-to" device now and it reads his 20Tb archive drive perfectly.

Better than the Shield!
I've been waiting for this box to get the Android 12 update, and now that it has, I decided to take the plunge and test it against my Nvidia Shield. The new update has fixed all the previous bugs and this box blows the Shield out of the water. Its fast, has a built-in media server and the picture and sound is utterly amazing. I'm not exaggerating, I have numerous boxes including ATV, Amazon 4k cube and shield and nothing compares. I wasn't expecting a huge difference in picture quality because frankly, the Shield is so good but the difference is like night and day. HDR and Dolby Vision are better - the picture is sharper and the colours are superb. If you're thinking about it then make the move! You won't be disappointed but bear in mind the box doesn't come with Android 12 installed. You have to do this yourself using a USB drive.

Crashes a lot
As others have said this box crashes a lot. I’ve had mine about 5 weeks and in that time I’ve noticed it will frequently lock up, stall or just completely crash multiple times a week. The software is just buggy. Often I will turn it off before bed or going out only to find later that it’s randomly turned it’s self back on and then crashed. Often it will say that YouTube to Netflix are pending updates with a progress bar showing over their app tiles. It will stay like this for days then disappear. More annoyingly when I click onto an app it thinks the app isn’t installed and rather than opening the app it will show a screen to install or open it up. If I restart the box this issue when it has happened tends to go away. Other times I’ve had to reinstall the app. In spite of the good reviews this box definitely has issues, specifically software ones which all the positive reviewers are subjected to too as we’re all using the same software. Just be mindful of this. I’m hoping through updates it will improved. My shield which was the pre 4k version was and still is rock solid maybe crashes twice a year. I only “upgraded” now to get 4k and also because the remote was failing on my shield. This box is cheaper, better specked and has a better remote and I think the shield is now overpriced in my view. On paper this box should for the most part be better (and it physically looks neater too) but unless they sort their shoddy and buggy software out and test it thoroughly before releasing many more will complain about it and it will never be as good as it potentially could be. Sort the software out please!

Good for a Google TV device with latest UI update but no iPlayer/ITV-X
Bought as I wanted something to replace the CCWGTV that has a bit more storage. Its pretty snappy, works well but doesn't have iPlayer certified which is annoying. I got my Plex server connected and Prime Video was fine in HDR. Didn't yet try the Dolby Vision but will do soon alongside some other apps. One thing I note is it goes get warm compared to other devices. Doesn't seem to affect it but worth noting.

Great Box only let down by its inability access Bluray/DVD Menu on it proprietary software
Update on this review This box is buggy as he'll. Constantly locks up and needs to be physically rebooted. Might as well have gone for one of the cheaper alternatives as Dune HD can't read menues on ISO's properly and I pretty much use Kodi as overall it's much better. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT!!!!!. I wish I hadnt Seriously regret spending money on this. I would reccomend giving this a wide birth. ORIGIONAL REVIEW OK, having got fed up of not being able to get a Firestick to playback in DOLBY ATMOS from anything other then Streaming platforms I decided to bite the bullet and buy this box. I had high hopes of being up and running very quickly but this proved not to be the case. 1st off. Much is made of the Dune HD software and its ability to play DOLBY ATMOS. Well yes it can but if the default title on a bluray ISO is not in Dolby you are stuffed so was never going to be a workable solution for me. Also you have to download the APK as it's not available in Google Play store. I then tried installing Corelec which is effectively Kodi as an OS. And yes it worked but then had issues (later transpired to be a defective Flash Drive. At this point I was on the point of considering sending it back. One last shot at trying to get the stock Kodi to work as it wasn't playing ATMOS out of the box. Did a bit of tweaking both in Android TV audio settings and then in KODI and I now have DOLBY ATMOS from bluray ISO's with full menu access. OK a it took a bit of getting there but is now doing most of what I want. I have even got it to work with my Logitec Harmony Ultimate remote control. When setting it up use the following Manufacturer: ONN Model: 100026240 Only gripe I have now is Channel 4 and BBC iPlayer apps do not appear to be supported on this device. Sure there is a way round it but have both on TV and Firestick so not end of the world. Dune are said to be working on the menu's issue and Google Play access. If both get sorted then will up this to 5 stars

Perfect once setup to my own preferences
I've had a couple of android TV devices over the years. I decided to move back into using one after I was sick of how slow and buggy my Samsung Tizen OS was. I decided on an Nvidia Shield TV, but was unimpressed after it broke after less than a week. I moved onto the Dune HD. It ran perfectly and has done since. The downside as a UK user was no BBC iPlayer, ITV X or Channel 4 on demand apps from the play store. But as an avid android user, I had the know how to get around this issue. I also purchased a Homatics DVB USB C tuner and was even more impressed to have live TV unlocked. The live TV app is complete with TV Guide. I have now no need to any of my slow clunky smart TV features and use the Dune HD alone and it is 200x faster and 200x easier and 200x prettier than before. Highly recommended.

Insomma, prodotto eccellente. Consigliatissimo!

So... I have this box and I have the Dune HD Premier 4k Pro. Same guts in both boxes but the 4k Pro comes in an aluminum case and can handle a hot swap 2.5" HDD. If the internal HDD is not needed this Homatics box is a good (great) option. If you are looking at this box you know enough that I don't need to go into the same details as everyone else has BUT now... Dune upgraded the box to Android 12 and as they always do they have released an updated version of their Dune Media software as well. Android 12 allows the box to Passthrough DTS HD MA now! IMO it annihilates the Nvidia Shield it just replaced. I have it hooked to an 85" TCL QM8 and the picture and sound are so good I just want to stay home and watch movies I used to think were mediocre because they look so good. The 4k upscaling is about on par with the Nvidia Shield AI upscaling set to medium to my eyes if you've seen that, which is really good without being too sharp. The box will allow you to play literally everything in HDR if you choose to set it that way or will play native SDR as SDR and HDR as HDR. If you set the box to play everything as HDR on my TV I see that its converted to not just HDR but Dolby Vision and looks remarkable (be advised, Samsung doesn't support DV but it does support HDR10+ which IMHO looks better than DV anyway because it doesn't crush blacks as much, and this box gives you that option). Color pops and the playback is smooth on both streaming and movie files, it all looks good and sounds good also. The Dune Media software is user friendly and I enjoy the way they have it categorized, it looks really clean and organized, something everyone likes to see. Also upgraded is the box's ability to play fractional framerates, which cleans up the smoothness of fast moving scenes. It's been able to play every video and sound codec I've thrown at it so far, and has done it properly without a hiccup or stutter, like flawless actually. This upgrade to Android 12 has been significant to say the least. For the price this Homatics Dune box is really a sweet spot for both streaming and files. IMO it allows your tv to look as good as the TVs capabilities as it also handles both 8 bit and 10 bit color. Personally I'm sold on Dune now and I guess I'm going to be a Dune "fan" if this is what they do lol. If Nvidia ever releases a new box I'll try that also though, investing in technology is the only way to continue getting better tech. You really can't go wrong with this box with this new update and it says something for the company to release these updates instead of trying to sell you more equipment, they are certainly dedicated to their reputation. This is a cinemaphiles box that does streaming really well. Yes, Dune makes better boxes for file playback but I want one that streams 4k services without any issues so choices are limited. With all this being said, obviously I would recommend this box to my personal friends without hesitation because the return on investment is high here and the picture quality is glorious.

- Very fast, better hardware than nvidia shield. - Allows changing the default Google launcher to Projectivy Launcher for no ads. - Played 4k videos over usb hdd as well as using Jellyfin with no stutters or issues at all.
