Best of the Alternatives
Here’s the bottom line: Don’t waste your time evaluating all of the alternatives. The best reasonably-priced CarCam that I found, after an early hint from Car & Driver, is unquestionably the Rove R2-4K Pro, released to the market this year. It’s simply an amazing little package made here in the US. You’ll love it.The device arrived in short order, nicely boxed, with all of the cables, mounts, etc., intact. I bought the camera plus a Rove 256GB microSD card (although a 128GB one would have sufficed) and the circular polarizing filter, which both protects the camera lens and easily allows you to eliminate annoying reflections off the top of your vehicle’s dashboard. I recommend it.I installed the camera in a late-model Subaru Outback Touring XT using the suction mount, to the right of the mirror. See the photos. This is the safest position since the driver normally sees only the bottom of the device, not the screen. Using the shorter USB-C to USB-A cable supplied, the camera plugs into the Outback’s Infotainment system at the bottom of the car’s large touch screen. Alternatively, it could be plugged into the Rove power head in the glove box. One hanging cable is less of an issue than trying to squish 12 feet of cable into crevices. The user manual supplied with the camera and available as a PDF is extraordinary – complete, proper Engish, pictures, hints, etc. It’s far better than the documentation I’ve received when spending many, many thousands of dollars for top-end equipment from Dell, Canon, Logitech, Samsung, and Sony. Thanks to Rove for an investment that makes the CarCam a breeze to initialize, install, and effectively use.For me, the camera has all of the features that I need. Control manipulation is good. No touchscreen, thankfully. The five buttons work perfectly for navigation. Its optics are very good, and the 4K images viewed on a large high-resolution monitor are excellent. Setting up the camera is a breeze and can be done outside the vehicle by plugging it into any USB-A power head. The camera will help you. Mounting and adjusting it is simple; use the suction cup. The camera is easily removed from the mount so that you can secure it or bring it inside to dump videos. To do that is easy, just use any USB-C to USB-A (or C) cable to plug into a computer, like my Dell XPS Windows 11 machine. When you do this, the computer’s file management system simply treats the camera as a normal external storage device, allowing you to copy, cut, and paste videos as you wish.I could go on, but suffice it to say that I’m happy to see an American company produce such a fine gadget, even though a CarCam is new for me and I’ve not yet explored all of its capabilities, like WiFi. Good job, Rove. Readers, stop looking around at all the marketing fluff and just order one. It’s a really good deal.My evaluation credentials: MS and PhD in engineering and computer science, faculty at a well-known tech university (AI), SVP of a global IT company, post-retirement deputy sheriff motor officer, traffic safety author, and speaker.

great camera with lots of feature at a great price
I bought this camera to take off road videos while out in my 4X4. It was much cheaper than some brand name cameras, and I got a lightning deal making it even more attractive. I must say I am totally blown away with its features and performance! It is super easy and intuitive to use, the mounting kit(s) it comes with are perfect and work extremely well ( even bouncing along off road ) and it has soooo many cool features. I would recommend this to anyone seeking a good quality dash cam. I have not yet had a chance to test the night vision, so no comment on that feature and I do want to point out that while taking snapshots in live video mode, the images do not appear to stored anywhere or are identifiable. I'm not sure about that. I recorded about 6 hours of video and made at least 50 snapshots while recording, however there are not jpg ( or picture) files to be found anywhere and review of the operating instructions did not help either. Also want to point out that if viewing and or manipulating the videos post record on a PC, it is extremely easy, windows recognizes and uses the file system and you can easily get your video off of the device to your pc with no special software of apps. This is a great camera for the price and I am very happy.

A Must Have for Drivers
I’ve been using the ROVE R2-4K Pro for a few weeks now, and it’s one of the best dash cams I’ve owned. The video quality is super clear, even at night, and the 4K resolution really helps capture small details like license plates. Setup was easy, and the app works well for transferring videos and adjusting settings.I love that it has built-in GPS and dual-band Wi-Fi very convenient for checking footage on the go. The supercapacitor is a nice touch too, especially for hot weather. Just keep in mind you’ll need to buy a microSD card separately, and if you want 24/7 parking mode, you’ll need the hardwire kit.Overall, this dash cam is a great value for the price. Reliable, high-quality, and packed with features!

Excellent Customer Service Great Dash Cam
With all the crazy drivers around, I thought it would be a good time to get a dash cam. After some research, I decided on the ROVE R2-4K PRO Dash Cam. It has great options to set the resolution of the videos it records and the available space on the micro sd card can be maximized before be recorded over with the loop feature. The dash cam was very easy to install and super easy to operate. The thing that really stands out is the customer service. The cable clips were missing from the packet and I was unable to install the dash cam as the connecting cable would be hanging down. I contacted Rove customer service via a text. They were very quick to respond and of course wanted to verify the packet contents via a picture I took. Within minutes they agreed to send me the cable clips and also sent me a tracking number. Long story short, the cable clips never arrived. I contacted Rochelle, the customer service who had previously assisted me. I let her I had not yet received the cable clips and that they appeared to be lost in the mail. The cable clips were over two weeks late. Rochelle quickly verified the cable clips were not delivered and were overdue. She assured me that they would send out new cable clips and a new tracking number. The new cable clips arrived within 5 days and I was able to install the dash cam. I am quite pleased with the performance of the dash cam. Rove’s customer service is top notch and very willing to make sure everything is right and the customer satisfied.

Amazing Video
This Rove dash cam is easy to use and records amazing video. We purchased four original Rove Dash R2-4K dash cams and now have purchased 2 of the upgraded Rove Dash R2-4K Pro's. The dash cams come ready to use, just insert power cord into your car's USB port or alternate power source and it immediately starts to records. The dash cams are very dependable. We highly recommend this product.
