Everything that I was looking for
I've been playing with this Luoran 3 for a little over a week, and it is everything I could have wanted and more.I'm old school in that I don't tend to use my phone for much video viewing or music listening in order to conserve battery life. I instead use an MP3 player for most my exercise/car driving listening habits. And the MP3 player I've been using was sufficient for years (plenue; discontinued), but the lack of Bluetooth capabilities was creating mounting frustration. So I tried 1 or 2 other players before trying this bad boy, and for the price point, I wasn't expecting much. But what I've done to find is just pure joy and astonishment that I could have had a better listening experience this whole time.PROS:- has apps to play different files- ability to connect to the internet (wasn't expecting that)- Bluetooth capabilities- tactical buttons for power and volume (weird that this is a plus, but for me it is)- it plays freaking videos! (I did not know I wanted this or needed this)- amazing battery life (one night I watched an entire season of LetterKenny and only went down 15% of battery life)- easy to upload files - connect to a computer, drag and drop files- for music, easy to create playlists- for music, "shuffle" seems to understand to not replay songs on a playlist until all songs have been played once first- has a nice weight - i.e. doesn't feel flimsy- after powering down and turning back on, remembers where you last were on a song, playlist, video, etc.- AUX port options- USB-C connectivity. It's nice to have a more universal port- a speaker on the actual player so I don't need a pair of headphones if so choose- I haven't tried it yet but apparently this allows me to record audio too. I don't know if I will use it, but knowing I could use it for memos or conversations is promising. I used a similar feature on a different MP3 player for college a decade ago.- great price point considering what other MP3 players are going for on hereCONS:- Bluetooth seems to act up if WiFi is on and it is searching for a network (found this out while driving and leaving "search for WiFi" on)- default music app won't play all music file types. I switched to the "HiByMusic" app that is also pre-installed, and have since had a better result.- really wish it had tacticile buttons for "forward," "previous," and "play"- not really a con but so you know, won't charge or transfer files unless it is in when plugged inIf you are like me and just want a device to play music, do yourself a favor and buy this thing.

Nice if you just want a dedicated music player
As a dumbphone user, the primary thing I miss about smartphones is the ability to carry my music library around. This device gives me that--it's a bit of a chunky guy to carry around but I just pretend it's an old school Walkman or something. Out of the box I'm not crazy about the software setup on this device, but you can download and install APKs with the built-in browser, including F-Droid which will let you install your own open source launcher, music player(s), and icon pack, and pretty much ignore the built-in stuff you don't care about.Main thing I wish it had was hardware buttons for play/pause (it only has power and volume). Not a deal breaker for me, but probably my main complaint. Build quality is really quite nice.Speed-wise I wouldn't want to use this thing as a phone, but if all you're going to use it for is listening to music it's perfectly serviceable. I threw Metro Player, Antennapod, and Transistor on here for music, podcasts, and radio. I was also able to sideload the Pandora app--it let me log in and worked initially, but would crash every time I launched it after that. I managed to figure out that if you disable location permissions to Pandora then it will start working (it's requesting fine location permissions which don't even exist on this device, which is why it was crashing, but if you disable location permissions entirely then it doesn't hit whatever was making it crash).I haven't tried wired headphones, but for bluetooth it supports LDAC and AAC (edit: it doesn't seem to support aptX--additionally I've been having stuttering audio issues using LDAC but I'm not sure if it's this device or my receiver to blame for that, your mileage may vary) so you can get decent wireless quality out if it if your headphones/speakers support it. It also supports 5ghz wifi which was kind of nice and unexpected. Battery-wise it drains quicker than I was expecting (I'd expect maybe 8-10 hours play time streaming audio over wifi and bluetooth, probably longer if you play local files with wifi off, and longer still if you go wired instead of bluetooth), but again perfectly acceptable. For more advanced users, the tap-build-number-7-times trick to enable developer settings has been turned off in the OS, but if you install something like Activity Manager from F-Droid you can launch the developer options activity directly and enable it and USB debugging that way, which will allow you to clean up some of the bloatware (with Universal Android Debloater, for example) as well as side-load your own APKs directly. It's a Mediatek 6753 CPU so in theory if you really want to own this thing and potentially install the Google Play store, it might be rootable if you know what you're doing, but I'm happy enough with it as-is that I haven't been motivated to try.
