What’s the best way to cut these ?

If you use scissors to cut the width try using a pin to push through all the layes at once, when you open it to cut you will have a dotted line to follow all the way up.

How well do these insulate the light from coming in the room?

My wife uses her blind to keep the sun from blinding her when she sits at our back window. It does enable the sunlight to pass through to a degree, so it will shade a room; but, it won't work as a light blocking blind.

Do these blinds leave marks when removed? Want to use them as a temporary measure

They left marks on my plastic window frames but they’re easily removed.

I am about to install one of these in a rented apartment; have you tried taking off the adhesive strip or the velcro strips? Do they damage paintwork?

We have used ours and they've attached well, and have stayed in place. We haven't removed them, so don't know if the velcro strips will have any effect on the paintwork. Though, would imagine the paintwork could be cleaned of the sticky residue fairly easily, with a scrubbing sponge and hot soapy water.
