The Cat Bible: Everything Your Cat Expects You to Know

I have a lovely abyssinian who ate the tainted canned cat food. Already suffering from CRF, she came very close to death. I went on a journey of discovery about CRF and cat health in general to try and help her. I found this book informative and well thought-out. The section on cats and their nutritional needs helped solidify my decision to go with a Felines Pride raw diet and add a phosphorus binder. This is a great reference for the well-being of your cats! I actually opened it yesterday and read about Feline diabetes in order to help a friend learn more about her cat's diagnoses and options-and questions she might want to ask her vet. Everyone with a cat should have 'The Cat Bible". The Cat Chat forum and radio talk show by the author offer even more information.

I absolutely love this book. I've been recommending it to everyone I meet, whether they hace a cat or not, haha.I had originally seen it at PetSmart, but it was really expensive, so I got it from the library. When it came time to return it, I decided I needed a copy of my own! I couldn't put it down! It's so informational, and opens your eyes so much to the cat world. It explains so many things that are vital to taking care of a cat, but that no one ever thinks about. I have learned SO much from just the preface of the book, let alone ten times as much. I always go back and look at it when I have a specific question, as the index and table of contents are very helpful. I highly recommend this book to any cat lover, cat owner, or even cat-expert!

Having fallen blindingly in love with a semi-feral, sickly shelter kitten a few years ago and gotten her to thriving physical and emotional well-being, I've done more than my share of research into everything cat. This book is the best overview I've found in print. It is well-informed, sensibly written, and complete. It is clear-headed about the pet-food-industry-sponsored "controversies" on nutrition, and likewise measured and uncloudy about various other hot-button issues that get people all riled up. But the best part about the book, to my mind, is the author's sense of the human-animal bond. There is no pseudo-clinical cat-as-species scientism here, no loopy cat-as-lofty-creature mysticism, bingo for cat-as-person sentimentality. Just attentive, perceptive, kind, and completely rational empathy for the little animal that shares our homes and hearts.

This book is very good on behavioral issues, but for some health/nutrition issues, it takes a particular stance that I know to be controversial without providing alternative viewpoints. It has a somewhat anti-vaccine stance for instance, which may be the feline version of the anti-vac movement. Also, it comes down hard against dry food. I've researched this extensively in the past, and the only correlation between dry food and health problems that stood up to scientific scrutiny was some increased incidence of kidney problems, due to the lower moisture content. But, by no means does it have all the issues that the authors ascribe to it. This kind of thing, overstating their case for this and that, detracts from the quality of the book, in my opinion. So, I wouldn't consider it the last word on cat care (or the Bible as the title suggests), but it is a very good reference book for any cat owner.

I thought I knew all there was to know about cat care before I got this book. Having owned cats over the years, and now being a new cat owner once again, I decided to buy this book. I never knew about such things as: keeping the water and food bowls separate; keeping playthings away from the food area; the food away from the litterbox, etc. The author sees things from the cat's point of view. The few of the author's suggestions I have initiated since receiving this book yesterday are already making my cat one happy kitty!! I am so happy I made this purchase and recommend it, both to new cat owners and those who have been for years.

After adopting a stray cat as my first pet, I felt I needed to learn as much as I could about caring for her. This book was perfect! It covers everything you could think to ask and is written in such a delightfully readable style that you won't want to miss a word. The section on wet vs dry food is a real eye opener. Don't believe the cat food manufacturer's endorsements; learn what they don't want you to know about cat nutrition and why many brands are harming our felines. Also includes litterbox issues, visiting the vet, bathing and much, much more. I'm buying extra copies for friends. Thanks to the author for an excellent reference.

A comprehensive cat book for all cat owners with a lot of information.

This book explains everything there is to know about cats and what to expect as an owner. I found it helpful when I moved in with my partner and we had to introduce our cats to each other. I would recommend this for anyone who is considering getting a cat. Even current cat owners should check this out, I'll bet you'll learn something new.

What a book crammed full of information for the cat lover - it's excellent - if anyone has a cat and needs information this is the book

I would give this 5 stars if the index was useable. The page numbers are nearly invisible, a book such as this needs a good way to find items listed in the index.
