Buy this whistle!
This wee whistle is excellent! Easy to blow, light to hold, and has a lovely mellow sound. You can achieve reasonable volume too, even on the lower notes. You are able to tune it, but I haven't played along with other instruments yet to try this. I almost passed it by, because it was so affordable! ( It would give other more expensive whistles a run for their money!) I know it's made in the key of D as well. Wish there were other keys available as I'd be first in the queue for them! Hey guys, what about making whistles in other keys, and especially alto whistles, and low whistles??

Absolute Bargain!
This is an incredible bargain; at £5.50 it's less than half the price of the same make D whistle. It is solid and well finished and comes with a case, ( of sorts.) It's tuneable and easy to get the higher octave. With the head fully home the tuning is bang on, (according to my iphone app.). Ok the sound isn't very sophisticated but it's not as shrill as a Feadog or Generation tin whistle, so it shouldn't annoy the neighbours! It warms up quickly and isn't affected by changes in temperatures like metal whistles, though I can't vouch for how it would sound outside on a windy day. You will see these cheap whistles branded differently elsewhere for two or three times the price , but I couldn't be more pleased with this from Recorder Workshop.

An absolutely remarkable whistle
I'm indebted to an earlier reviewer (who had experience of playing a few hundred whistles - if I remember correctly) for flagging up how good these whistles are. They highlighted the tone, playability and (importantly) the even and well balanced back-pressure, and having played this C whistle for an hour or so, I have to agree that it is a remarkably good whistle. I have played a large number of tin (and wooden) whistles over the years, including professional recording. I have to say that this is the most playable and forgiving whistle I've played: where some whistles will break towards the top of the second octave unless you overblow them (causing a shrill piercing sound), this one will give the same sweet tone all the way up, without demanding loads of extra air. In fact, without even thinking about it I've found myself playing through a whole tune on this whistle without needing to take a breath. It is so easy to fill and maintain the tone. The intonation is perfect and I'm getting this one tuned into C with the tuning slide about 6mm out. Now, compared to the Generation and other "tin" whistles, this ABS whistle has a wider bore, so is louder; and I suspect this might make it slightly less easy for complete beginners than, say, a Generation whistle - it does require some experience in using the back pressure effectively to maintain consistent tone and volume. On the other hand, for not much more than a fiver, it's a no brainer for beginners and experienced players alike to give it a shot and see how it works for you. The whistle is plastic, so if you wanted to be picky you might be able to detect a slight tonal difference between this and a wooden whistle, but I also think that in a 'blind taste' you could easily mistake the tone for that of a wooden whistle. I haven't tried the D whistle from this company: in my experience the shorter D whistles in plastic are more at risk of breaking in the higher octave, so for the moment my comments relate only to the C whistle. I was dubious that this whistle could really be this good; but if you're in the market for a C whistle, you really cannot go wrong with this one.

nice enough.
ok elephant in the room, this is a C pipe, not a D, so it plays different notes, it claims to be tunable, yet I am unable to see how. total lack of instructions is laughable and the reason it loses a star. That said, if you can already play a recorder or Penny whistle then this is great, if not then I would suggest starting on a D whistle as thats what learner lessons are on. made of relatively sturdy plastic its comfortable to use and I would recommend washing thoroughly before first use. being plastic means if your fingers sweat op after playing you wont have any unwanted metalic smell or taste on your fingers. the sound when played is beautiful or harsh depending on your ability ,you need to blow lightly not imagine your a footy referee. comes with a none too impressive thin bag. This may look like a toy and with ear plugs you can let kids play train whistle, but it is a musical instrument that played to a mic, would be at home amped on stage with a guitar band.

Cheap and worth the cost, but very, very flat!
This whistle is quite a good purchase, I would say for it's low price it is well worth it, however, the low price does come with some downsides. The whistle is made from plastic, as made obvious in the description etc, however having played other plastic whistles before I was expecting an entirely different tonality; to put it simply, the whistle sounds cheap. But most important to note, this whistle is FLAT AS HELL. You cannot play along with any instrument in C as you are already half a semitone out of tune, impossible! If you are purchasing this whistle to keep by your side and pick up and have a jolly with on occasion, then this is the purchase for you. If you are planning on using this whistle in a group or performance, then please look somewhere else.

Excellent quality for the price
Plays very easily and sounds very sweet and pure. The head can also be adjusted for tuning. While the plastic doesn't feel amazing, the build quality is good and it feels very sturdy.

Recommended whistle
A superb Susato-clone; that is to say a cylindrical-barrelled whistle with a curved blade which yields a rich tone. This one has good backpressure so it doesn't feel like you're blowing through a garden hose. Very good, period, at this price, superb. I have maybe 50 whistles in the house and have played maybe 1000 over the years and must say this is a standout.
