Good to put the filter on top. Cleaning the shower head becomes easy. However, putting the filter on the bottom will get rid of all the crema and thus a poor cup of coffee.

The media could not be loaded.  I like that I can keep my group head cleaner and you can throw it away with the coffee puck when I am done. It comes with 5 packs of 100 filters each in a paper box. (I bought a little glass jar to keep it in.) I use it on top of the puck as a screen. If you are trying to use it at the bottom of the portafilter it doesn't lay flat on the bottom of the Breville filter basket so it might cause channeling.

I have tried both on top and on the bottom of my basket but will stick with placing on top of the puck. Helps keep the shower head clean and helps a little in dispersing the water through the puck more evenly.

The media could not be loaded.  This fits a 51 mm porta filter without issues. It doesn’t leave any space. I think it’s a very tight fit. Are usually put one drop of water on the filter before adding espresso grounds. I noticed when I switched to a bottomless, porta filter from a pressurized porta filter that espresso can spray out of the machine and this resolves that I don’t know what exactly happens through the filter paper, but it helps the espresso group and pour out in the uniform fashion.
