Anna: The Biography Paperback – 4 May 2023

Let me begin by saying I thought Anna Wintour was nothing but vogue and sunglasses. Well I was wrong! This is a fascinating insight into the life of one of the best known magazine editors.

A fascinating book and very well illustrated.

This biographer had a tough gig.There are so many different opinions about her from those who know her that you take your choice.The perception about her feeds itself and becomes magnified.Her personality comes into focus for me about the time the Vogue digital platform took shape.At times reading the book i was reminded of the great Peggy Lee song'Is that all there is':her personality seems both contradictory and enigmatic. At the end of it i thought she would be 100% loyal to whoever----Till the day came to renege.Then you were dropped.

Interesting 🤔

Book was fine but I really didn’t learn anything new. Most of what I read I already knew from Vanity Fair Diaries by Tina Brown (which is a very long read but has loads of information) , the Chiffon Diaries and Alexander Shulman inside Vogue. I also think the book could have said more about her relationship/reaction to Harvey Weinstein after everything came out. I don’t believe for one minute she wouldn’t have known anything or heard any rumors but even if we are going to pretend otherwise it would have been good to know how she reacted! Overall the book would be good if you didn’t know anything about her.

Boring

Half of the book is Notes. Is it an attempt not to make Anna angry? And despite that, there are no interviews with any celebrity or designer who know Anna first hand. Did the author even try to ask any of them for a comment?Her boyfriend of 20 years cannot recall why they broke up. Seriously?All in all, very disappointing.
