Does this kit work with what I'm guessing is the original Optimus (plain, non-colored aluminum 0.6 L can with orange writing)?

Will this work for the older Brunton nova expedition multifuel stove?

most of the parts in the kit will not fit.

Does anyone know if this kit works for the older version - Hunter 8R?

This is not the kit for the Optimus 8R. Kits are available for the classic Optimus 8R on Ebay.

Does this include the rubber gasket for the pump assembly?

If you mean the large (approx 1" diameter) gasket that goes between the pump and the fuel bottle, yes, it is included. Also includes the white plastic gasket that is inserted between the air outlet and the pump assembly (at the bottom of the pump assembly) but a word of warning about this one. If you replace don't tighten too hard (like I did) and ruin the seal!
