We gave this book as a Christmas present. The children were enthralled by both the beautiful illustrations and fascinating facts on every page.

A beautifully illustrated and factually informative book which will appeal to all ages. Be warned measures are not metric.

As an ex- Primary school teacher I know the difficulty that many kids have, once they have learned to read stories for themselves, in getting hard facts and information from text. This book is an inspirational 'ground-breaker' in that it looks and feels like a 'story' book. So young children will pick it up and even be enticed into it by the first page, 'Once upon a time, a child took a book from the shelf and started to read'. The child is lying on a bed looking at... yes ... the same book... the one entitled 'The Blue Whale'. All the following pages are filled with really beautiful and interesting illustrations. It has short easy-to-read information about this enormous mammal. BUT the thing about this excellent book is that the size, weight, buoyancy, food, breathing, communication etc. are explained in pictures of things that are as big; so its tongue is so big that 50 people can stand on it and we can count every one of them.I have read it with my 6 yr old child many many times and each time there's something new to count, point out, try to find, wonder at and examine!It really is the best possible book to engage young readers with facts, boys and girls alike, But as an adult sharing it with children of all ages, it is the beauty of the illustrations that makes it stand out among all other picture books!

Ordered twice, had to return both times due to damaged cover. Beautiful illustrations but text has some Americanisms which spoilt it for me.

Book arrived quickly but the cover does not look new. I’m very disappointed as this is for a gift.
