A Mountain Man In Disguise A big city like St. Louis is the last place where a mountain man like Preacher would pick a fight. But how else will he get at the ruthless power broker who is using fear and bloodshed to take over the Western fur trade? A Killer In Control Shaving his beard, posing as a greedy hayseed from Ohio, the Preacher comes face-to-face with Shad Beaumont--who is leaving St. Louis with an army of hired gunmen. . .with the Preacher on his tail. And A Fire That's Just Begun To Erupt The odds couldn't be worse and the battleground couldn't be better. For the wild frontier is no place for fancy plots or poor disguises--but a fine spot for a killing ground. . . Review: Excellent Book - This was another very good story about the Preacher (In name only), he's not Religious by any means, its a story of the Preacher and Uncle Dan going to St Louis to kill a Guy they both don't like, the book keeps you interested all the way thru, if you like reading Westerns then you will like reading this book. Review: Preacher breathing fire & smoke - In the Johnstone way, Preacher's Fire is an exciting read. Not only is Johnstone one of the best writers in the western genre, he is bring his family along as well. In this adventure, Preacher along with Uncle Dan come out of the Rocky Mountains and head for St. Louis to deal with a rouge named Shad Beaumont. Asssuming another identity the mountain man works to disrupt and finally end the life of Beaumont, a man to evil to live. Another well written novel that entertains from beginning to end.

PREACHER GOES TO ST. LOUIS
Another great moving action filled western with our friends from the Rockies, Preacher, Uncle Dan Sullivan, Dog and Horse. Everyone on their way to St. Loos(Louis), to locate a devious thug named "Shad Beaumont." A man killer who had caused the death of Uncle Dan's nephew Pete. Now Beaumont had the nerve to put a "BOUNTY" on Preacher, because Preacher slayed all the thugs Beaumont had sent to take over the fur business of the Hudson Bay Fur Company. It's what we call a syndicate today extending out west...you know wealth..and no law to hinder your extortion...,but there was a blockade called "PREACHER." Everyone will ENJOY this adventure series of "THE FIRST MOUNTAIN MAN, PREACHER."

Preacher`s Fire
It has been a very enjoyable and adventuresome book series to read. I think this book would make a very enjoyable movie. Every book is exciting to read about the old West.

A good story
People do like a good story and this is one of Johnstone’s best. Preacher’s been in tough spots before but this one’s unique. I’ll never look at St Louis the same again.

William Johnstone
William Johnstone and his series of stories about Preacher, Smoke and Matt Jensen are very enjoyable to read. His writting reminds me of Louis L'Amour. The stories are fast paced, full of action, and hard to put down. If you enjoy the stories set in the old west, and heros like Hopalong Cassidy you eill like all of William Johnstone's novels. If you want your heroes more down to earth then these may turn you off. Preacher's Fire (The First Mountain Man)

Preacher
He’s my hero, and coincidently, his name rhymes with another author I follow...Lee Child’s character Reacher. I enjoy reading Preacher novels because they seem so authentic of life in the 1800’s. I love westerns, and have lots of Preacher’s adventures to read.

Not the usual Preacher journey
Many parts of the story don't hold true to past Preacher traits. The tried and true Preacher moments just weren't quite right. The story line made him seem like Preacher "lite". Too much second guessing and uncharacteristic bad decision making.
