I won the W.A.R on rats!
For a great part of this year it felt like the rats were going to win the battle to take over my house but thanks to perseverance and some helpful products plus a chunk of money spent rat proofing my house I am happy to say the rats lost. The W.A.R valves helped and having had them installed now for 3 months in my inspection chamber below the patio I feel it's time to feedback and review them. The real route of the infestation turned out to be the rats had chewed through the inspection chamber wall, burrowed under the house to a broken pipe and made their way up four floors to the loft.To fix this the inspection chamber was replaced, the pipe replaced, the patio was removed and replaced with thick, thick concrete (fortress like). In the loft it transpired the installation had been poor with no Durgo valve on the end of the vent. Even with the works completed there was still sounds of rats until finally the W.A.R valves were installed. Any rats that had been left inside the house following the repair works ultimately exited through the valves and were unable to return. These devices are very very good- not perfect but very very good.I began with ordering just one valve and installed it but with continuous ratty noises I bit the bullet and bought further units to complete the chamber. The units are good quality and easy to fit and most importantly work as I now have no rats entering my house plumbing. The only reason I say they are not perfect is because they don't cope brilliantly on a bend as a couple of the entry points in to the chamber are on a slight angle. On these points the flap can become jammed open by tissue etc. But as long as you keep an eye on it and check the chamber from time to time, it's fine. The pros outweigh the cons. When I first saw these valves I thought they seemed a bit expensive. Plus there was the fact I needed three units for the house. However considering I spent a small fortune defeating the rats- redoing patio, fixing the drains, employing a professional camera man to look inside the drains, buying poison, buying every kind of trap on the market, disposing of and replacing all the insulation in the loft contaminated by the vermin, the cost of these valves in comparison to all else is negligible. If having these valves installed means you can defend yourself against the prospect of having rats enter your home, I would encouage you to buy them.I live in the dockland area of central London. My house stands right by the river Thames so it is a certainty that there is a constant stream of rats living close by my house. But thankfully, finally they are no longer living inside my home.

Clever and effective design. No more bad smells coming up from the drains!
We had an issue with unpleasant smells coming back up from the drains and into the bathroom. We needed something that would prevent foul air being able to get back up the pipe, but that would still allow water to drain out through it. We came across this and decided to give it a try.The design is clever and effective. The closure is weighted, so that naturally rests in a closed position - but the pressure of water running up against the inside of the closure is enough to allow it to open and let the water pass through. If you live in a relatively new build house, then the fitting of this is also likely to be very straightforward, as you you have standard sized drains that are in perfect condition. Our house is 40-50 years old, so the drains are not quite so perfect. This made the fitting a little more awkward, as I had to chisel away a little bit of exit pipe in order to fit this in place. (This is the only reason I have not awarded a full 5 stars.)The good news is that it is now about a year since I fitted this device and it has worked. We no longer have a problem with bad smells coming back up from the drains!

Good product
I've now installed 6 of these. They seem well designed and well made. They are easy to install and look like they will last. I am using them to prevent backdraft of noxious sewer smells rather than rats. Not what they are designed for, but they do seem to provide an air-tight seal so I am optimistic they will do the trick.

Anti back flow
Rather than a deterrent for rats, we used this item to stop the backflow of water after flooding. Working well and a great peace of mind.

Easy to fit - hope it will last the distance!
This was purchased primarily as a defence against flooding from the foul water drain, as this seems to be a major cause of house flooding. The price seems excessive for what it is (it’s of very simple construction) but if it’s ever caused to do the job it’ll potentially save thousands. The item was very easy to fit - just drizzled some washing liquid over the rubber sleeve & it went into the pipe like a rat up a drainpipe! - so easily, in fact, that I was concerned it might come out again just as easily. Two checks later (one after 24hrs & the second a week later) showed it to be still robustly in place.I remain slightly concerned by the 2* review which shows the plastic cover severely damaged by rats but time will tell.All-is-all seems a good product, if over-priced.
