You just need a chisel and screw driver. Works well and easier than catches.

I much prefer these ball type catches compared to the regular tubular mortice catch that retracts with a turn of the handle.The reason is simply that I have too many of the tubular design fail. If they were to fail with you inside a room with no other way out could be very inconvenient. I think it almost impossible for the ball type catch to fail in this way.These ball catches from Amazon are quite variable in length with just a twist of a screwdriver.

Simply and easy to use, only thing I found was that it was too thick and the ball bearing is very tight so you find yourself slamming the door to get it to catch and shut

I bought a similar item on eBay and it is worse than useless. This one, with a ball, is simplicity itself. Put it on a bedroom door, superb. Took less than five minutes.
