Great briefcase, BUT
Very strong case that wears very well despite all the stuff I often carry on trips. The black finish has not faded. Still looks nearly new. Lots of pockets which helps when you are in a hurry to find something allows carrying a lot of stuff. Zippers are all good quality. On the "Con" side the case falls over too easily if not loaded in a good balance. Also, the handles do not stand up as shown in the photo but lay flat. When getting the bag out of a car trunk at night, or a dark office early in the morning, you have to feel around to find the handles.

Versatile laptop bag, fits my 17 inch laptops
I'm probably on my fourth copy of this classic bag, across 20 years. I wear them out between overstuffing them with gear, stressing the zippers and straps, to sliding them under many airplane seats and onto the handle of my roller bag. I keep a spare at home for when the field bag wears out. These are hard to beat, between their durability, versatility and price, easily handling my 17 inch LG laptops, in spite of the bag's 15 inch name. After the strap gave out at an overseas airport, launching a frantic shopping day for a substitute, I started carrying a spare strap in my suitcase, but have not ended up using that spare. I guess my back demanded I stop loading the bag to be so heavy, as well as modern laptops getting lighter. The bag's eventual weak point for me has been zippers, so it's worth being gentle with that aspect to maximize bag lifespan: don't let the zipper liner get caught in the zipper, leading to derailment. I once shopped zipper replacement at luggage repair shops, and found the repair job to be more expensive than the new bag. That's what gets me to finally retire one of these excellent bags.

Outstanding for the frequent flyer - UPDATED quality issue - read at bottom
I travel by air once or twice a month every month of the year in my new job. I use a spinner carry on suitcase that is great, but have been frustrated with a good "ride on top" bag that would fit under the seat and give me access to my electronics and maybe a book (I still like to read paper books, don't judge me) during the flight. I always carry one laptop, one tablet, two phones, one book and all the charging cables, etc., and for some flights I need to carry a second (bulky corporate) laptop with its own charger. After trying about a dozen different options I had on hand, I started looking for what to buy and decided a briefcase was the way to go. After several days researching options, I selected this one and have been very happy. If I didn't ever need to bring the second laptop, I think I'd have gone with the 2-gusset version, but this one fits my needs very well. BUILD QUALITY: The fabric is very durable, and sheds water well enough I'm not worried about being out in the rain for reasonably short periods, or spills. The stitching all seems good, and the zippers are tough self-repairing ones that will take years of abuse. The interior fabric is good for most use. I wouldn't store sharp tools or anything in there, but for typical travel items, I'd expect it to last a long time. The padding is firm enough to hold the bag's shape and keep it from bulging when full or sagging when empty, but it has enough give to absorb reasonably shocks and protect your things. DESIGN: Overall, I like pocket layout in for organization. There are plenty of options and the placement seems well thought out. The shoulder strap is a bit basic, but of decent quality. It's comfortable and is of suitable length to be adjustable to the shortest or tallest bodies. The handles feel a bit limp and tend to get in the way, so maybe a little room for improvement there, but it's not a huge issue. Also in the minor improvements category, the zipper pulls tend to jingle. It's enough to be annoying. I saw one other review where the customer used tin snips to cut them off and added his own soft zipper pulls. I'm probably going to do that as well. In the BIG WIN category, the panel that slides over your suitcase's telescoping handle is perfect. It's wide enough to keep the bag firmly up against the handle from top to bottom - no leaning forward or sagging out at the bottom, and there is a velcro tab in the middle that prevents the bag from sliding left or right more than a couple inches. LOOKS: It is a classic black fabric briefcase. It looks classy but understated. Leather would look classier but cost more (for any quality) and usually leather starts to look pretty worn down after use (unless you spend the really big bucks for true full grain and give it lots of TLC to keep it looking great). Heavy denier fabric keeps looking good for years (with occasional spot cleaning). UPDATE: Dropped one star. I'm hoping this issue was a fluke as it is very unlike Samsonite, but a week or so after I posted this review, one side of the front handle came loose from the bag. The rear handle is well sewn to the body of the bag with standard pattern (looks like a box with an X in it). But the front handle is sewn into the seam where the front pocket meets the body. On one side, the webbing of the handle was just barely sewn in, with just 1/8" or so of webbing past the seam. I'm not seeing that as an issue in other reviews, so I'm guessing this was a fluke. I thought about return the bag, but I have the skills to do the repair so I sewed both sides of the front handle to the body of the bag (just like the rear handle) and now it's just like new (better really). Also, after a couple weeks with the bag, the jingling of the zipper pulls did start to get really annoying, so I copied another reviewer and cut them off and replaced them with soft zipper pulls, so they are silent now. Other than that (and I really DO believe my bag was a fluke), this is still an exceptional bag, and as I've gotten some use on it, the layout of the pockets is VERY well thought out, the fabric and zippers are durable, and the rest of the stitching seems to be very well done.

Handle ripped off within two weeks of receipt
I previously had two "Samsonite Classic" computer bags and they lasted about three years each. I went to Amazon to order a new one, was told that the model I had was discontinued and the site directed me to this "updated" model. I received the new bag and felt the material was thinner than on the previous model, but outside of a few minor design changes it seemed similar to the previous bags I had. I used it for roughly two weeks before one of the handles gave way when I picked the bag up. After checking around, I am apparently not alone - I've read a couple of reviews warning about the handles not being attached securely. I'm still waiting for Samsonite to respond to my request to repair or exchange it.
