Does this retain any information from the ID?

Retention of data from the ID is setup decision by the owner of the system and is easily configured in the Minor Decliner settings. Upon purchasing the system, if there are questions on how to configure this, a quick phone call to us can walk you through it. We also have a video on how to adjust this in our cloud-based video help library.

Collection of scan data can be disabled with two touches in settings so the compliance logging feature itself can be turned on or off. If the compliance logging is off, then no data is collected at all and stored on the tablet.

If scan data is collected, it’s placed in a feature we call the compliance log. This allows the owners and auditors of the system to ensure the system is being used.

The default settings of compliance logging are to retain the date / time of the scan, scan result (PASS / Fail), the person's birthday, and the driver’s license expiration date. The data is retained for the last 45 days. On the 46th day, the data from day 1 rolls off. The compliance log can be set to retain data from zero to 365 days. 
The compliance logs can be viewed on the screen or exported. Password protection is available for the viewing of the logs. All data is retained on the tablet and not the cloud.

Can this detect fake ids?

The blunt truth is that it is incredibly difficult to detect a fake ID with an any ID scanner. 
But the good news is, that Minor Decliner systems provide ways to utilize technology, plus tuned-in human intelligence, to ensure businesses have the tools they need to turn away underage customers. 
If a customer wants to definitive fake id detection, Minor Decliner has other products to support them. They can contact us directly for that info. 
This tablet includes our Intelligent Fake Detection Feature. This is a carefully curated list of the best questions asked to trip up a carrier of a fake ID. Our list of 25+ questions factor in human behavior and intuition, asking for specific details on the ID, such as the customer’s zip code or whether they live on a street or a road, that the average fake ID carrier may not make the effort to memorize. When an ID is scanned, our Intelligent Fake Detection system will open, prompting the salesclerk with questions to ask the customer and then log a pass/ fail record into the system based on the answers provided. This not only ensures an added level of confidence in the validity of a provided ID, it also ensures that even the most inexperienced employees have the most expert resources at their disposal. It also provides a record of the check in the compliance log. This provides the business owner with a record that not only they checked an ID for age, but also screened for fake IDs. In inspection audits, the authorities love to see this proof, and it shows that the business is serious about compliance.

Does this allow for banning customers, for example if you've 86'd them from the establishment? so that when the id is scanned it shows up as "banned"?

Yes - The system has this feature available. There is some added configuration to set this up , that is present in the settings menu. When you get the system, email us and we will send a video on how to enable this. The data is all kept locally on the tablet. To ban someone, you must scan their ID to Ban them. The system does not have the capability to import a previous banned list. Also, to Ban someone, you need to scan the ID then BAN. There is current not the capability to Ban from a prior scan list.
