Best tv ever owned
The Samsung TV was ordered on a Friday afternoon, delivered Sunday morning. Box was un-damaged, in 5 ⭐️ shape. Had to first remove the 8 year old Sony TV before installing the new Samsung. It is a 2 person job, but only because of the size of the TV, 65”, not the weight, bulky to manage with only one. The Samsung was sitting on the same cabinet as the old Sony, no wall installation. The platform legs the Samsung TV sits on are easily installed, and sturdy. The new tv rested on a table covered with a blanket. It’s best to connect the cables while still on the table, for the HDMI and soundbar. When the tv is upright it is a little more difficult to see the ports. Easily flipped the tv onto the cabinet. Hardware setup complete. Power up the tv, about 20 minutes to configure the software for the tv, as well as the existing Sony soundbar, which works great. Oh, the picture … we have DirectV, absolutely amazing picture. This is the older model Samsung S90C, the S90D was actually on sale briefly for the same price. Compared the ratings for both between the S90C and the S90D, and the S90C somehow performed significantly better, especially for Sports. The S90D did better for gaming, faster processor, but that’s not now how this tv will be used, it’s mainly for movies and sports. Picked the S90C for just that reason. Buying the kids the same for Christmas. Fortunately did not have to contact Samsung support, which is getting poor grades for those that unfortunately need that service. Hoping luck holds out.

Amazing Picture Quality and Versatile Smart Features
ONE YEAR UPDATE: I bought this tv to be our main living room centerpiece for media consumption. It was my first OLED television and took a great deal of research to feel comfortable making taking the leap to buy. We have been very please with the incredible size and picture quality of provides for literally every type of viewing. The smart features make it a versatile choice for gaming, sports, streaming, and physical format cinema. Since it is placed in the center of our living space, the appearance of the model was very important. It does not disappoint. With an incredibly slim profile and clean lines, it maintains a modern vibe for the room where it is mounted. The performance has been spectacular. With smart features that I have barely scratched the surface on, the tv manages to intelligently adapt to our viewing needs with little adjusting. I chose to link it directly to Ethernet through an AppleTV for the OS, but it has not needed it. The sound is purely amazing. As a default, I employ soundbars and surround on all my theater setups, but it’s not necessary with this model. There have been time when the soundbar disconnected and it simply was not missed. I’ve never heard a flat screen with fuller sound! We’ve been very pleased with this Samsung, and look forward to expanding the fleet of like tech around the house. My only complaint would be the simplicity of the remote, but I suppose the alternative would be cumbersome. Pro Tip: Link it up with your echo Alexa devices and you can control the power, volume, and control functions hands free!

Quantum Television
As a videophile. Buying a Television set is a very hard decision. After Plasma sets were discontinued due to energy consumption I thought the color and motion handling was lost forever. In 2016 I made a purchase of the last 3D capable OLED set, the LG 55" C6. The C6 had inky blacks but the color always left something more to be desired. It also had HDMI 2.0 ports which was limited to non-HDR 4K 60hz gaming which was less than ideal in today's high frame rate environment. Enter Quantum Dot OLED. I wanted a set that would dazzle the senses. That meant no compromise image quality and capabilities. I own a gaming PC with a 4090 and a PS5. I wanted to hook up both and enjoy high refresh rate gaming with minimal lag. I wanted to be able to watch any movie in SDR or HDR and be able to pick out every detail in the shadows and experience every shade of 1 Billion colors. This is the TV that does it all. Not only does it do 4K 144hz when connected to my 4090 via a Zeskit HDMI 2.1 certified cable. It also does ALLM and 120hz when connected to the PS5. That is the power of the SoC that is running the display and mainboard. You are getting 48 gbps on all four of the HDMI ports. That means you can easily connect a PC, PS5 and an Apple TV 4K and be able to run lossless audio back to your soundbar or home theater with zero compromise. All of the HDMI-CEC is here. Seamlessly adjust the volume of your soundbar or select "Play Movie" within your PS5 without having to touch the controller. And once you're done, pressing the power button on the Samsung remote turns off all of the connected devices. Many have said that other OLED sets without quantum dot technology do the exact same thing at a lower cost. This to me is the minimum entry price into high end OLED tech in 2023. There is no other set that will provide you with this high of a picture quality. When gaming at 144hz the screen is fluid and smooth. There is minimal tearing when VFR is enabled. On the PS5 Gran Turismo 7 looks stunning. Everything from the audience in the grandstands to the pebbles on the edges of the track are tack sharp and clearly visible. Colors can either drip off the screen in Standard mode or they can be accurate and impactful in Filmmaker mode or in Original PQ Game Mode. Dune 2021 4K UHD is the best disc I have for testing out a set. This S90C passed with flying colors. There was no purple tint to any of the many shades of grey. For a couple of hundred dollars more you can be bleeding edge with the Sony A95L or the Samsung S95C but for all intents and purposes, the S90C is perfect.

Bloatware and Incompatibility with Common Apps (netflix, disney, hulu)
Title says it all. This TV is the biggest, most expensive piece of crap I've ever purchased. Disney and Hulu have not worked since I bought this. Samsung claims that Disney is to blame, but why do I have no trouble watching Hulu or Disney on my mother's Sony Smart TV? Why does even Hisense have no trouble loading Disney/Hulu? The menu on this TV is absurd. It's slow, and prioritizes apps you've never heard of instead of the only things I want to use this for: Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and PS5. That's it. I don't need all this other crap that Samsung wants to sell me. Also, try watching TV over antenna with this POS. Every time, a border appears with some smart settings that I can't disable, trying to get me more information about the program that I don't want. Also, the Samsung terms and conditions love to appear over any program and won't disappear until I press the OK button on the remote. I hate this TV and, due to my experience with this and with Samsung refrigerators and washers/dryers, I will never purchase anything from this sad, miserable company ever again.

Amazing Picture Quality
At the time of writing this, this tv provides the most bang for your buck among the higher end tvs. The picture quality is phenomenal, side by side with the s95c the picture looks identical (some feature differences but not enough to justify the large price difference). The sound is pretty good for TV speakers on it as well but still can't compare to a high end sound system. A nice added bonus is if you have a compatible q series Samsung sound bar system then this tv will augment that system and provide more speakers to the center channel (only draw back is that this feature will not work for external devices that are plugged into the sound bar itself while connected over E-arc. Dolby vision is missing which is a point against it but hdr10+ on this looks just as good as this TV gets super bright while running hdr content. Something to be aware of is that there is no dts passthrough support so if you have a plex library or a physical media library you'll need to work around this limitation by having a dts supported streaming device such as an Nvidia shield or Blu-ray player plugged into a sound bar that does support dts and pass the video signal back via E-arc to the TV, the built in plex app on the TV down samples to stereo sound so I would not recommend it. If you use Samsung's smartthings this seamlessly integrates with that environment and can even act as a new smartthings hub. The ability to calibrate the TV with a smart app is a nice touch and does make a significant difference on color accuracy. Overall even with the couple drawbacks I mentioned above I highly recommend this tv as it is a stunning display.

Things to know before buying this beautiful set
Multiple online reviews are true, this is a beautiful set with amazing picture quality. But there are a few things I wish I had known in advance. First, if you are using two rails for a VESA mount, you need four 8 mm bolts to attach them. I finally discerned this from the tiny cryptic diagram in the fold-out "setup guide". The length of the bolts depends on how thick the guides are--28-30 mm plus this thickness. I found 30 mm to work well for rails about 3 mm thick. Supplying four 8 mm bolts in the package would have been a nice touch in such an expensive TV, and if supplied 30 mm bolts proved to be too short, Amazon has them in all sizes. Second, even a cursory web search of how to find the POWER button reveals few clues. Yes, I know it turns the set on and off; thanks, 3 minute Internet video, and it's probably located along the bottom edge or back, depending on model, but where? Turns out it is under the tiny logo centered under the bottom of the frame, but even after you find it it is hard to find again due to its small size and almost flush protrusion. You need tactilly sensitive finger to find it assuming your finger is exactly centered on the "button". I do love the web nugget that if your model "lacks a power button" you have to use the remote. The possibility of NO power button certainly adds drama to your search for it. What's up with Samsung's ever-successful efforts to hide its power buttons? I have Samsung monitors that at least have enough button height to find them. These minor annoyances were worth it, it's a beautiful picture.

Amazing TV! 5 stars for S90c, 4 for S90d
I've been using an LG 4k for years now and it doesn't come close to this. The colors are so vivid yet perfect contrast and saturation under HDR graphics. 144 refresh rate is incredible too. So many features with built in Alexa and fast processor. I hope this TV lasts me for a very long time. Update: This is for the S90D I received when I placed this next order. I was surprised I was sent the updated model. Looking it up it says that the picture and video processing is supposed to be slightly better than the S90c. If there is, I can't really tell, the S90C picture quality was amazing itself.. However, I have two complaints about the S90D model. First is the stand. The S90C had a metal base. While this made the unit heavier for lifting, It felt much more secure than this updated base. I'm afraid itp's going to pop of any moment, everything pops into place with no screws, which make me nervous when holding a 1600 product. Having screws for both the back and the base would ensure nothing would pop off. In fact, that was how I accidentally broke my prior s90c. The base popped on to the 'forks' that hold the back and they popped off as I was trying to lift it back onto it's stand. The 2nd was that I noticed that the S90C had Freesync Premium in game mode while the S90D is just showing Freesync. Not sure why there was a downgrade. Other than that, the picture looks just as good.

Excellent TV after a major OS update from Samsung
This TV improved dramatically with a recent operating system update. I bought my 65-inch S90C on June 16, 2025, and from day one the display impressed me. Unfortunately, the user interface never matched the quality of the panel. It was slow and cluttered, with a cluttered look and many unnecessary apps. Some apps I installed—namely ESPN and PBS—were so sluggish that they were barely usable, while others, like Amazon and Disney, worked without issue. My antenna also failed to detect a local ABC station, even though it pulled in Fox, NBC, CBS, PBS, and a quirky channel that seems largely devoted to X-Files reruns. I assumed the slow apps were the responsibility of their developers. I deleted extra apps where I could, adapted to the clumsy menus, and tried to ignore the annoying and unattractive ads Samsung inserted into the channel listings. I worked around ESPN by watching sports through Disney+. I planned to drop the PBS app entirely and replace it with a subscription through Amazon’s app. Everything changed on November 23, 2025, when the TV notified me to install an operating system update. I did so immediately, and the difference was striking. The home screen now looks far better. The menus are more intuitive and have a clean, translucent design. The ESPN and PBS apps became fast and responsive. The ads in the channel lineup disappeared. When I rescanned for antenna stations, the TV detected not one but two ABC stations. I cannot emphasize enough that this update has made owning this TV a completely different experience, and very much for the better. The sound quality varies depending on what I am watching, so I expect to add external speakers eventually. For now, I use headphones when needed. Also, I use the display in Movie mode because Dynamic mode is too bright for my tastes, even for NFL games. Based solely on my present experience, this is a five-star TV. If the display suddenly fails (as other reviewers warn is possible) or if Samsung fails to maintain the remarkably improved operating system, I will return to this review and adjust the rating accordingly. My TV's full model number is QN65S90CDFXZA, and the current OS version is 2203.
