Is this a reliable bag for a basketball coach?

Depending on what you plan on carrying. If you are looking to carry a basketball and a few items (like score books, whistle, water bottle, out of sneakers) then yes. As a coach you might be carrying multiple basketballs, cones etc them may not be enough room. My kids carry their uniforms, sneakers, water and or gatarade and a basketball and have room to spare.
