Dad recommended
This is my husbands favorite book to read to our sons. We have the board book and the hardcover book and buy this as a baby gift for our friends. It's fun to read and my boys (all of them) really get into it!

Short, cute, sweet!
This book is so special to me. I honestly haven't found many books (since my own childhood) that really resonate with me. This one did. I saw it while visiting the Strand bookstore in NYC and read through it. It's a very simple story about a boy that hugs everyone and everything- from people, to animals, to food, to inanimate objects. I think I loved this so much because I, too, am a hugger. I sadly didn't have money to buy it on the spot but was thrilled when I opened it up as a present for the holidays. It sits on my shelf where I can see it at all times. I read it to everyone that comes over. Come on, it's adorable and takes only a few minutes to read! Even my 13 year old niece appreciated it and we know how difficult teenagers are to please. This year, I bought it for my nephew. We live in different states but during a visit there, I was able to read this to him as his bedtime story. He loved it. I hope that he continues to love it as much as I do.

The only book my son will sit through
These days it’s hard to find a book my son has the patience to sit through until the end. He’s 10 months and just wants to move. This has been his favorite book for the past 2 months and consistently keeps his interest until the end every time. He loves this book! Agree with other reviewers about it being a great book to utilize different voices & pitches of sound. He loves it!

A sweet hug-centric story filled with beautiful, silly illustrations perfect for even the littlest readers.
I bought this book for my 16-month-old daughter, Claire, even though it is listed for older kids because Claire LOVES her books, and because I have always loved Scott Campbell's art (I'm a big fan of Double Fine Games, and of Scott's art in Psychonauts in particular). On our first readthrough, Claire was already pointing to various objects and animals, and smiling at the beautiful, silly illustrations. Amazon lists the age range for Hug Machine as 4-8, but Claire really responds to it - she loves hugs, and seems to understand and enjoy this hug-centric adventure. The only drawback so far is that struggles to turn the pages herself (and she doesn't let anybody else turn them for her!) - I would have loved to purchase this as a board book! This is really a trivial gripe, however, and does nothing to take away from the quality of this fun, silly story. Final Thoughts: Pros: Beautiful, silly illustrations, and a sweet hug-centric story perfect for even the littlest readers. Cons: None (except that I would have loved the option of a board-book version!) Recommended Age: 1-7

Is this the best book I have read this year? Well, yes, it is. There's so much tenderness and happiness in it, I just feel so warm inside every time I pick it up. Scott Campbell is nothing sort of a genius. A classic. Buy it for yourself. Gift it to everyone. Go give hugs and have pizza.

Fue un regalo perfecto. Es un libro encantador, desde la historia con sus rimas hasta las geniales ilustraciones de Scott Cambell. Muy buena adición a mi colección.

Hands down the best book on the market for kids and young readers. We love the story and the kids can't get enough of the main character. Honestly a book you have no problem reading 10000+ times when the kids ask because it is just so fun.
