Wish I could have been there
Great story! Many times, I thought “I wish I was there!@, but that would have ruined it for Pete. Still, I’m glad he shared the story.

Delightful read that will surely inspire a trek into the Bob.
Thoroughly enjoyed Fromm’s latest adventure in the wilderness, especially after having just discovered and read his first, Indian Creek Chronicles. If all backcountry hiking expeditions were as smooth has the writing, everyone would be doing it. Mostly, I enjoy his appreciation, awe, respect, and fear of the wilderness combined with a dose of humor. There is one griz encounter which still makes me laugh.

the best of both worlds
Beautiful description of living in the wild, taking care of fish embryos daily and missing his family, especially his two wild sons. It’s a balancing act between sharing a love of the wild with your boys and keeping them safe.

Hmmm…
I really disliked this guy for most of the book, self important, pompous. There is some redemption in the last third. There are moments that shine but not enough for me. He never really admits his resolution over wild vs family. Book group read or I may have dropped it.

Beautiful memoir.
A lovely well paced memoir of a month in the wilderness. Every page a revelation of the beauty and the life of the area. It is also an exploration of one man’s life and his loving relationship with his sons, the center of his world. The seeming simplicity of life without the distractions of today’s technology is a reminder of who we have once been and can still be if we seek for ourselves our place in the wild. Beautifully written.

Peaceful read
It's been a long time since I was in Montana but it seems as though it never really leaves you. Reading Pete Fromm's story just set me back on solid Montana earth once again and it felt good.

A beautifully written, honest, engaging memoir
I’ve read and re-read Pete Fromm’s first book, Indian Creek Chronicles. It’s fascinating to see how he's progressed, in his comfort in the wilderness and in his understanding of that world and the one that surrounds it. Fromm comes across as a genuinely humble aware person whose observations have real value.
