A very good reference for dry glazes
This has a lot of glaze recipes for "sculptural" glazes in all firing ranges. It's a great reference for those glazes that are fairly uncommon.

amazing dry glazes out of an electric kiln
This is a really fantastic book with some amazing dry glaze recipes in it. A friend of mine bought it first, and when I saw the glazes he was producing, I knew I had to get it. He was creating rustic looking glazes that were absolutely stellar, and yet they were coming out of an electric kiln. I currently only have access to an electric kiln, but I used to do a lot of wood fire. I found this book to be a great way to achieve some similar outcomes to woodfire without having a wood kiln. Some of the colors in these glazes are just absolutely amazing. Greens and blues and oranges and yellows that are absolutely wonderful. There are even some glazes with a really nice crackle effect. Some of the glazes have to be applied in very very thick coats, and can still even fire off a bit, but it makes the "rustic" effect that much more realistic.Highly recommend this book, and can't wait to continue trying new glaze recipes and experimenting.

good addition
In general, I have been pleased with the Ceramics Handbooks series, and this book is no exception. It covers a wide range of dry glazes. Although I have not yet had a chance to try any of them, I am eager to do so. My only frustration is that some of the mid-range glazes contain barium, and I am always scouting for glazes that satisfy my desire for barium-free dry but interesting glazes.

Dried expectations
The author's work is very serious but the larger part of the recipies contain toxic material which i particularly do not enjoy. I burn in an eletrict kiln at cone 8 and the recipies i like the most ( the texture and the colour) , are suited for cone 10 reduction, or cone 04/05, so i was a little frustrated .

Very informative
Great information regarding matte glazes, including many recipes for low, mid, and high fire.

For Ceramic Sculptors'
A complete and intensive glaze book, breaking glaze components into understandable categories and various firing temperatures. I've tried some of the formulas and results match or come close to the pictured test tiles. I've given this book as a gift to several student ceramic artists because it IS so good.

Dry glazes that work!
One of the things that annoys me the most about many books on glazes, is that they usually concentrate on high firing, with very little for those who chose for one reason or another not to high fire. It's almost as though unless you fire to mid or high stoneware temperatures, you can't be a 'serious' ceramic artist. The good news for me personally, is that this book includes plenty of recipes for both ends of the temperature spectrum. I was particularly looking for dry crawl glazes, and have referred to this book again and again for advice. There are detailed descriptions of each glaze, with illustrations, and most importantly they actually work! I also appreciated the selection of work from artists which show combinations of glazes from the book, sometimes with surprising results. I don't know of any other book exclusively devoted to dry glazes - and even if they exist it would be hard to beat this very useful and interesting handbook. It is everything other reviewers have said and more. The author must have undertaken a vast amount of experimentation and research in order to compile the book, and I certainly felt as though I was getting my money's worth (which is definitely not always the case). There is absolutely no padding or pages wasted with large illustrations ofmaterials or equipment - again we have all seen this before and it is infuriating. The book is very much to the point and concentrates on what it is supposed to do.A very worthwhile buy whatever your level of experience, and a must for those interested in the alchemy and effects of dry glazes.

Great photos and lots of glze recipes
Lots of glaze recipes. American though so some of the ingredients are a bit different if you live in a different country. Very informative though. Techniques too which is good.
