Because Prop 65 in the state of California says that any item that has or the process used in it manufacturing it contains certain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, must be labeled as such in order to market the product in California. I was not able to find any instances where any issues arose from playing baseball with these. I've used them for over 40 years
