Not shure. Your baby is obviously not needing a full sterilization if starting on this weaning cup.if I were you I would not sterilize the full cup but sterilize the top bit where the baby succle if this makes sense. I think a baby under 1 years old would struggle using this cup

How do i use the valve? if I leave it plugged into both the sipper spout and the central hole, the lid will not close properly?

You might have cup to full try emptying some out
