This is well constructed out of wood, and built to last. No batteries needed, just paper and pencil to calculate your points.The instructions mentioned red balls (we received orange), neutral balls, and either blue or green (we received green). We did receive one extra orange ball, so 13 balls in total rather than 12.The game has eight colored duvets where a ball could land, as well as four corner pockets. Each spot has its own point value, and the color of the ball determines whether you add them, double hthem, or subtract them from your point total.One line of the instructions could have been better worded for clarity and ease of understanding. It says:“If a player gets points for all six balls in one spin, they have the right to replace the balls in the centre and spin again.”When I first read this, I interpreted that as you could throw that score out and try for a better one. On second reading, I think they meant the player gets to take another turn (keeping the points from both spins.) I don’t know, it wasn’t clear. However, my kids have fun making up their own rules to games and changing the rules often, so we just figure out what they enjoy and go with that.You will need to assemble the top, but it is easy even for a child to do. It has two wooden pieces that screw together by hand. The top is easy to spin, and the game works as intended.A great game for practicing adding and subtracting! Easy fun, not batteries involved!

Growing up, my parents had a wooden game very similar to this one that always sat out on the coffee table. When they moved houses they decided not to keep it anymore and my sister got to it first. I didn't even realize that I would miss it, but the nostalgia is real every time I go to my sister's house.When this game popped up, my inner child got super excited and I grabbed it immediately. This is pretty decent as far as quality goes. The wood that it's made from isn't the fancy-shmancy wood that my parents’ game was, but it's still made well, attractive, and there's no raw or unsanded areas. The wooden balls are a little smaller than the one I had growing up, but there's more pockets and divots for them to land in, and the divots and some of the wooden balls are painted different colors to make the scoring/game a little more complex. You can take the spinning top apart in order to flatten it again for storage if you don't want to keep it out on a coffee table, but from my experience, guests of all ages love this game and it's fun to idly play when sitting around the table having a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. My kids all jumped right in to play with it and had a blast perfecting their top spins and trying to get all the wooden balls into the best pockets-- I didn't even get to take a turn for a while lol. It may seem silly, but I'm super happy to have this game in my life again. :)

This is a fairly easy game to play. Yes, you need to add and subtract your score. I guess you could do this by calculator or just let your 8 year old child do it for you. That way the kids get to practice their math skills. I need to work on spinning the “top” which is how one gets to add or subtract one’s score. It’s not always easy to do with the severe arthritis in my hands. That’s about the only drawback that I can see.This game is made of beautiful, real wood that requires no batteries—unless you have to use a calculator. All in all, I recommend this game!

This Tyrolean Roulette is a great game, the board and other parts are smooth, well made and painted, but … everything is just too small. I got it in the first place because I thought that it would be perfect to bring to school and have my middle-schoolers do quick mental adding and subtracting, or that they could practice using the calculator. These are the reasons why they are not much interested:- Adding and subtracting mentally was too hard because of the numbers below the colored hollows.- When using the calculator, it was difficult for them to alternate the plus and the minus. They would end up having to recalculate.- Some found it difficult to spin the top, and they ended up giving up frustrated in the middle of the game.What I don’t like: IT’S WAY TOO SMALL, the board itself, the wooden balls which are about ½ inch. This might be why they provide extras, in case they get lost. Also the corner pockets are too small to take any balls out. One can only get them out of the corner pockets by pushing them through the hole they went in, that is if your finger fits in the pockets.I will give it another try to play with those students who like the math challenge. I can see how it’s more suitable for adults, yet I do recommend getting it on a bigger scale.

I haven't figured out how to use this game yet but the first thing I noticed is the sturdy wood material that this game is made of. It looks like it was well built and can handle some dings and drops. Mom gets bored with her coloring books and word puzzles, so this game will be another great addition to her daily activities. I try to find as many books, gadgets and puzzles to help her exercise her brain cells that have been affected by dementia.
