Beautiful Film
Fantastic film I only wish it wasn't so difficult to get it to English rather than German !! & English subtitles would have helped! Beautifully acted & keeps to the story, I wish it wasn't quite so expensive as I'd be giving copy's to all my grandchildren to!

Classic tale well told
Love this version of the movie. Just make sure to change audio to English because the default is German.

Wonderful
This is the definitive version. I waited years for this to come out on DVD. The acting is superb Maureen Lipman is outstanding as Miss Minchin!! It is just wonderful the only attempt ITV ever did to rival the annual BBC Sunday afternoon children's classics !!!!! Buy buy buy !!!! It's also truest British and not Americanised as the film version was. Perfection in a DVD is rare you'll have it with this one !!!!

I loved the book. Wasnt too impressed with recent version and after reading rave reviews i bought this. Charming for its time period 1986.

Gorgeous!
I've now seen the American 1995 version, the Shirley Temple version, and this. Of them all, this is the clear winner (much as I adore the oh-so-cheesy 1995 one!). But this version follows the story really closely and gets all (well, most of) the little details right. It has some wonderful characters - lovely Becky, innocent Donald and poor, stupid Ermengarde being some of my favourites as well as, of course, Sara herself, who is wonderfully played and faces all her trials in a truly princess-like manner. Thoroughly recommended!

Great for young girls
although i did not get this DVD as i was meant to due to some mistake ...but its worth watching as this movie NOT the shirley temple or the american version, is more based on the book. and for that reason i give it 5*'s if you have a daughter, granddaughter, niece - and they love princess stuff - they should like this period drama dvd.

Thought it would be english subtitle, there was not. Info about that in the add would've been nice.

This is an outstanding family film.
I have always enjoyed watching this story. I watched it first with my children, now I have grandchildren who will enjoy it in time to come. The story is well told and well acted. It is good family entertainment and has much to make you think about.
