I use this to secure a lightweight tool that I use close to 100 times a day to my belt loop. I've been using it for several months with no issues. That's probably close to 8,000 extension/retraction cycles already.Update 7/21/2014: I'm still using this daily at the same duty rate and it's still performing quite well. If it dies tomorrow I would consider it well used, given the frequency with which I use it. I'm probably pushing 20,000 extension / retraction cycles at this point. I would happily purchase a replacement if I needed to, but I don't get the sense it's planning to give out any time too soon.Update 2/5/2016: This thing is still going strong and I use it ~100 times/day, 5 days/week. It's probably close to 100,000 extension / retraction cycles by now. A year ago I snagged it on a ladder and kinked the cable loop at is the attachment point for whatever you connect to the retractor. I found that a cable type keyring worked well as a replacement, so I swapped it in and kept using it. Today, I noticed that a few strands of the cable have broken, so I need to replace the cable again. However, the body, the clip, the spring and the line are all functioning as new. I'll snap a new cable in the end and keep on using it. I bought a couple more T-REIGN Retractors when I came across them on sale to have as backup. They're still in the packaging and it doesn't look like they're going to be pressed into service any time soon. Color me impressed!Update 2/7/2017: Chalk up another year of daily use ~100 extension / retraction cycles every workday. I wore out a second cable loop so I just replaced it with another cable style keychain loop, which fits just about like the original steel cable end loop. The thing is still going strong. The spring shows no sign of weakening and the dacron line shows no signs of wear. Truly outstanding durability.Update 2/7/2018: Another year of hard use in the books. I managed to finally wear out the tether a couple of months ago, so I replaced it with 100lb test dacron fishing line that I already had (it's just about identical to the original line). I disassembled the retractor to replace the line. When I had it open, I was impressed by the robustness of the spring and the quality of construction. I've been using this thing every working day for 4 years now. It's accumulated an incredible number of extension/retraction cycles by now. I'm very impressed by this tether.Update 1/2/2022: I have since retired but the retractor I reviewed is still going strong. It doesn't get used nearly as much anymore, so I assume that it will outlast me.NOTE: the product that I wrote this review about was manufactured by T-Reign. They are now being advertised as Boomerang Tools. I assume that this means the original company or product was bought-out. Oftentimes, when this happens, manufacturing gets moved and/or materials get changed to reduce manufacturing costs. I have no idea if the current "Boomerang Tool" device is in any way equivalent to the "T-Reign" device that I purchased and reviewed. I hope that it is. Caveat Emptor...Addendum 5/1/2026: I rarely have occasion to use this retractor anymore, but it's still ready, willing and able. I noticed that many users have had issues with the cable component that tends to fray over time. I expect that the service life can be extended somewhat by putting an appropriately sized piece of shrink tubing over the cable to protect from wear. In my long period of use, I simply replaced the cables as they wore with a cable type key ring available at just over $0.50 ea. (in a set of 20). The product I used is available on Amazon as "Vktech Stainless Steel Wire Keychain Cable Key Ring (1.5mm)" I'm not sure if I can post a link, so just search the description. Simply open the cable ring up and it will snap right into the retractor clip. Good luck!

These are AMAZING! I bought this T-REIGN hunting retractable gear tether to hold my fish grips and one to hold my line cutters, on my kayak. I attach both under the front of my seat and the tether is long enough to use my fish grips on either side of my kayak. These are constructed very well and I expect them to last. Perfect!

I’m not using this as intended. So that’s out of the way. I bought it for my climbing saddle for the Notch CBF (climber’s best friend) wedge. I can lock the lanyard, wedge the kerf and let the wedge fall without the wedge flying back at me as the piece falls. Which frees up my hands. And then unlock it when I’m ready and the wedge retracts and it’s out of the way. The spring has good tension and the parts seem pretty durable. I’m hoping they don’t stop making them.

This is a good, well made retractable tether all round. Only problem is it is not sand resistant and in the surf is where I intended to use it. Doesn’t retract once infiltrated by sand, but if your not going to get dirt in it, ir great

I think the product is satidfactory but not great. The first day it came in the logo came off. Not a big deal since it does not hurt the products goal but it is obvious the glue was not very strong for the logo. Also the line can be made stronger. I try putting a few key in the chain and it cannot hold the weight of 3 keys and my car one. I wanted it specifically for that reason. Now i am using it for my work ID which works fine for that weight. SO far i still have it after a couple of weeks and it is doing well with the ID card. I do not recommend for keys!

I purchased a lighter duty Boomerang Tool Company Gear Tether for my company issued ID / prox card late last year. My previous retractor was a 4 ounce retractor force with a 24 inch reach. This is perfect for swiping a prox card while walking, butI found that having a retractor with an 8 ounce retractor force and 48 inch length perfect for swiping the card reader from inside my vehicle.

Was considering this one all the North American Rescue lanyard. Went with this one and very happy. Can keep my trauma shears close and the attachment system is very sturdy.

This is the second brand of retractable that I purchased to use as a lanyard for my tape measure at work. The first one didn’t last a week! This one is still going strong over a month now! I use it daily and I am not gentle with it at all. It will probably hold up to whatever you have planned for it.

Very noisy to use, Don’t recommend for hunting

It’s fine. I think the boomerang logo is more kakkoii. T-reign a bit cheesy.Seems to be entirely plastic, but must be durable because reviews are very good. Packaging says Polycarbonate case. I thought Nylon is tougher? Nylon is zip tie material. Anyway.After reading one review before buying that said it got stuck, I made sure to hold the item upright, and pull the tether down with other hand slowly. It did meet some resistance the first time, but after 3 times of this vertical pulling it became smooth. The item retracts well.I purchased the L model. Spec: 48inch tether, 226grams weight limit. I put my 248grams torch (with battery), it cannot retract the torch back inside fighting gravity. But I can bring it up with my hand and after letting go it will stay there, which is what I wanted. I haven’t tested walking.Seems to be made well. All Plastic is a concern even the carabiner area. But reviews are good I will trust the Boomerang Tool brand. There are many uses for this kind of product.
