Gave my dog salmonella and he had to be hospitalized
I hate to give this such a bad review because my Yorkie has been on this food for three years now with almost no problems. However, I bought his most recent bag from Amazon and shortly after he started vomiting/diarrhea three days in a row. I didn't connect the dots that it was the food because he has been eating it for so long. Since his demeanor was otherwise fine I just kept an eye on him and he seemed to feel better.UNTIL two days ago - I took him for a long walk and gave him a bowl of his food. Within an hour he was acting extremely out of sorts - seemed dazed, wobbly, sleepy and not like his usual self. I figured he was just tired so that night took him up to bed and kept an eye on him for the entire night. In the morning when I tried to feed him and give him water he was so out of it he didn't even know what I was doing. He hadn't drank a drop of water in 14 hours which is very unusual for him. I gave him even MORE of the food (piece by piece) in the hopes he just needed to eat - little did I know I was making him even sicker. I took him to work with me because I was worried about him and he just got worse. Wouldn't stand up, wouldn't move, wouldn't go out and wouldn't drink. Around 3 I looked up food recalls for dog food - apparently a few months ago this exact food (Chicken & Chickpea) was recalled for salmonella in some bags. My bag was not a part of these bags but it made me question "What if it had happened again?" Looked up the symptoms for salmonella poisoning and they were EXACTLY what he had been displaying. Called my vet - they told me to get him to the doggy ER immediately.Rushed him to the ER - he was severely dehydrated and needed to be kept overnight. All in all cost me $400 + the $40 I spent on the bag. Luckily Amazon is absolutely amazing and they refunded me the bag no questions asked. So - while this food has been very reliable in the past I am now turned off of it - even though it was just one bad bag it still makes me incredibly nervous if they've been recalled for salmonella before. So - just be careful and if your dog starts to display any of those symptoms take heed!

healthy but my dog doesnt like its taste
Since switching to Dogswell my dog has been feeling much better. He used to get rashes all over his body as soon as I take him for a walk around our block. The vet said he had allergies and was costing me a fortune for all the medications she was describing for his allergies. while telling afriend about this, she told me that her dog had the same exact problem and that the vet told her the same thing my vet had told me. She said while looking it up online, she found alot of people talking about the same type of rash and how staying away from grain would take care of it. Sure enough, I slowly started switching him over from his regular "favorite" food to Dogswell and noticed the changes within 4 days. The only problem I have is that my dog doesn't like the taste of it, and I've been trying to get him to eat it by not giving him any treats so he gives up and eat just enough not be hungry I guess :( I'm looking for other options for free grain, but this product is great for that type of problem with dogs.

Just adding another positive review!
I have a Welsh Corgi who started having a reaction to the regular Whole Foods brand dog food. Upon further research and vet recommendation I decided to switch his food to a grain free recipe. I did a lot of research and settled on Nutrisca. I bought the first few bags at Whole Foods, but they only have the 4lb. So after a few bags of the smaller size I decided he was having a good reaction to this brand and grabbed the larger size. The price seems high, but compared to other brands (Such as Blue Buffalo) it's reasonable. There is no red meat or grain. The main ingredients are chicken, peas, and chickpeas, which are all very good ingredients that upon research, are well suited to a canine diet.Dog Food Advisor has a good website with a lot of information, so check it out. Don't necessarily trust vets. They recommended Royal Canin, which is made from pretty junky ingredients (a lot of corn) and is made by Mars corporation. Other brands which appear to have good quality include Merrick and Blue Buffalo.I'm quite happy, and my dog loves the new food! A lot better than the old brand!

... food after my vet gave my 10 yr old best friend a poor prognosis
I found this food after my vet gave my 10 yr old best friend a poor prognosis. Lots of Meds, change his lifestyle and keep him comfortable while I can. I did want to accept such a negative view and looked for my own answers. I myself had recently had major health problems and began adding more chickpeas to my diet with good results. In researching a new food for my dog I was excited to find Nutrisca and how well it paralleled my own choices. I bought a 4# bag to give it a try. My dog, who had lost his appetite, gobbled it down from day one. It was a good sign but how would it help his condition? I didn't have to wait long to see. The improvement was almost immediate. Overall it took about 6 weeks to totally get back to normal but now I can't believe how far he has come. His coat looks better than in years, his energy is back and he doesn't need any of the meds the vet insisted he would. This food has given my friend new life and most likely a longer one.

This food is great for dogs intolerant to yeast
This food is great for dogs intolerant to yeast. However, if it isn't a fresh batch, it gets dried-out and crumbly and my dog won't eat it. The bag I received was almost a year old - I had to mix small amounts of it in with a newer bag I bought at the grocery store. At least when I by it locally, I can look at the batch date on the back of the bag, so that I'm able to select a fresher bag (or avoid an older bag)... Purchased online, I get whatever I get. This brand of dog food is a wonderful option for dogs that cannot eat yeast - but I'd recommend caution when purchasing online.
