These are great for those rainy days. They grew quicker than I thought they would. Only problem when the crystal has formed as soon as you try to move the trees the crystal will fall off so they are ruined just as quick as you make it (hence the 4 stars). Still a fun activity for kids.

Making the trees was fun, my son enjoyed it and it was interesting to watch them grow. However as others have mentioned the product is a bit misleading, once the 'crystals' have finished developing they just fall off as they are just a soft foam. The sparkles are photoshopped on to the images. Needs to be thrown away after making or they just make a huge mess. Overall I'm disappointed for the price.

The picture on the box is misleading. It looks like you’ll get a tree that grows into a crystal that you can keep but it’s not.The markers were dried out. The pink and orange don’t show up on the tree. The trees on the box use other colors like red which isn’t received. The trees grew some white “crystal” fluff. It keeps falling off the tree so we sadly won’t be able to keep them.I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing. This isn’t worth the £25 I spent.

Great fun , But they don't last. I might try spraying them with hair spray or varnish next time.

The item did not contain the correct tree panels and could therefore not be assembled. When I reached out to National Geographic there was no satisfactory response or solution.

It turns into a very soft styrofoam type substance that if its even a little nudged, goes everywhere! Our marker pens that it came with were very dried up so it wan't a very vibrant colour. A fun activity but overpriced in my opinion.

I did not have high hopes after reading some of the reviews, but the whole family actually liked them! 2 kids, 2 parents and grandma each made one. You color a paper tree with markers. As you can see in the pictures, only the blue and purple markers really showed up. (Maybe try using other markers?) We did them around 8 p.m. The crystals started growing after about 45 minutes, and we were all surprised at how cool they were the next morning. I think one of the key things is to wet the tops of the trees with the crystal solution. As others have said, this is a throw away project - the crystals are not sturdy enough to keep.

It produces a good result as advertised and grows quickly which is great for impatient kiddies. It starts growing within 30 minutes and is almost fully grown after a few hours. The downside is the growth is extremely fragile and a lot of the growth falls off on its own without touching it (photo). If you touch the trees or knock them even slightly, a lot of the “cauliflower” growth falls off so not great for kids who expect to be able to handle and examine them often they’re grown.Update: The vendor reached out to us and gave a full refund because we were disappointed with this product which pleasantly surprised us. We have bought several other National Geographic kits in the past and have been very pleased with them. This was the only one that was a little disappointing.

I have always loved magic trees and I’m so pleased to be able to share this experience with my niece. Learning and fun all in one!
