Works Good and Easy to Use
I have houseplants and noticed this year that some of them were weakend and "dying". After talking to someone about my houseplant issues, they mentioned a light meter that they use. He suggested my plants were not getting enough light even though it's very bright in my home. Some of were plants were about 15 feet away which I thought was still bright enough. I eventually researched more on how much light plants should receive when they are in your house. This light meter works great! All I did was install the batteries it came with and turned it on. It was already calibrated. I removed the cover and started measuring the light coming in from my windows. I measured the light in the middle of my room and there is a big difference! I would have never thought it was that big of a difference since my home gets southern exposure sunshine all day! So, yes, this light meter helps! Now, I will position specific plants in certain spots in my home using this intuitive and easy to use light meter!

Great device, easy to use and affordable
I had seen this product used on Sheffield Made Plants and wanted to give it a try, as I will be bringing my house plants indoors in the near future, for the winter season. As any plant lover, I want my plants to happy and thriving, and in the most ideal conditions I can provide. Therefore, ensuring they are getting the ideal amount of sunlight is essential. This device has allowed me to check different rooms and distances from the windows, to find the ideal space for my plants to spend the winter months. In addition, because I will be placing them on a wire rack, I will be purchasing Grow Lights to ensure I have the optimal lighting for my plants to thrive this winter. The device fit nicely in the palm of your hand and is quite easy to use, and the instructions are easy to follow. It requires 3 AAA batteries, which the manufacturer has generously provided, which adds to the value for the money. You have the option of Lux or Foot Candles for measuring the light. My only complaint is that it only report the temperature in Celsius and there is no option to report in Fahrenheit. But honestly, if thats the only issue, this little gadget is a steal for all it does and what you get. So, if you're in need of knowing how much natural or artificial light you're getting in a room, buy this. It is a great little device.

Determine Brightness in your life
This is a great tool for telling you the lumen in a particular area. I have used this to check my CoolFire LED lights, which they exceeded their advertised brightness. I've also used this to see how much brightness is coming from a floor lamp in a room. While saying a room is bright or not bright is one thing, having the evidence to back it up is another. It's a quality but inexpensive meter that is great for basic everyday use when you need to know how bright an area or something is. It's handheld, which makes it easy to use.

... The decimal point is ridiculously small relative to the digits. It is very hard to see it in bright or too dark surroundings. It is totally unnecessary as this meter not accurate to fractions of a decimal. If you keep it under constant light it is going to fluctuate by 10-20, so the 0.1 is meaningless. So it becomes a problem if you can't tell if the reading is 3002 or 300.2 with the tiny decimal. You can save readings and then examine them later under better light, but if this part of the design is so poor it makes me wonder how accurate the reading is too. Also it's not clear if this is calibrated for accurate reporting of LED lights, which is a whole area unto itself (most of these meters are meant for halide or fluorescent lights). Otherwise it seems ok for a $30 meter for rough estimate of visible light to the eye, but you are not going to get the accuracy of a $500 PAR meter that detects detects almost all photons over a wide range of wavelengths (worth learning about the spectral response curve if you are doing something mission critical).

I used this handy little meter to measure the existing lighting in a large parking lot prior to hiring a Lighting Contractor to install new poles and fixtures. This very low cost gadget was handy to use, gave consistent light values once I found that you needed to turn it off and then on again at the next reading location. I didn't need scientific accuracy and this probably doesn't deliver that but it gave what I believe to be reliable results to form the basis for laying out new light pole locations to achieve even illumination taking into account the impact from adjacent street lights. Definitely a useful tool.
