Genius design. Easy clean. No more smells.
Perfect size. Simple pedal design with a soft close lid. Lids locks open for easy emptying. Even comes with free sample bin liners. The two bins are the perfect size compromise for the amount of space it takes up and the volume of trash/recycling it will hold. The best bit is the Simplehuman bin liners. They fit perfectly, they’re strong, and they’re cheap. I ordered refills from the Simplehuman website and they arrived post free for less than I can buy standard liners from the supermarket. The bin itself is beautiful quality. You like German engineering? This is right up there. Good, no, great quality stainless steel outer skin and lid, resists finger marks and wipes clean in an instant. The pedal mechanism is reassuringly robust and it just works. Not many things are teenager proof but they haven’t managed to kill this yet after a year. The base has wheels at the back for easy maneuvering in tight spaces. The lid fits perfectly so no smells creep out overnight to stink out your kitchen. The plastics are kept to a minimum but what is used is super high quality and shows no sign of wear. One wipe with a damp microfiber cloth and it looks brand new again. Very smart design that will look great in even the most high class kitchens.6 stars all round.

fantastic bin!*ADVANTAGES*1) Excellent size2) Stylish - looks amazing in the kitchen3) the rectangular size rather than a standard circular bins means it's easier to fit in places and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.4) no need for the more expensive simple human liners, the standard ones fit fine.5) self-closing lid is perfect, closes very slowly and smoothly, so you never need to get your hands dirty by touching the outside.6) it is has a fingerprint-proof brushed stailnless steel finish, meaning it leaves no finger marks.7) easy to cleanDISADVANTAGES1) Slightly pricey but a worthwhile investment. This is a totally utilitarian product that, however, also looks great, particularly in kitchens with stainless steel features. The self closing lid, which closes satisfyingly slowly, means that you never have to handle the the outside. However, even if you do handle it the fingerprint-proof brushed stailnless steel finish means that no evidence is left behind - a Godsend if you have sticky little members of your household with sticky little fingers! The bin's shape also means that if you want to site it in a relatively narrow gap it is possible as it fits almost right up to the wall. The only potential downside is the cost of the bags. The bin comes with 5 when new but replacing these is a bit of a pain. However, I fit any white liners and secure them to the inner black plastic bin with a large elastic band - so problem solved!

Simply wonderful - but expensive
We have had this bin for a few months now and it has proved very good to use. It is stylish although a bit bland - as you can see. the soft-action return mechanism on the lid might seem like a gimmic but does make it a delight to use. It is capacious. The removable inner has meant that extracting difficult (full) bags is much easier and although other bins I have used have exactly the same feature - it just works better on this model. The lid-open lock is another simple but worthwhile feature which allows you to lock open the lid when, for example, changing bags or throwing away lots of stuff. Finally this bin does notneed to be stood off from the wall. Most pedal bins have a protruding hinge which needs clearance to open the lid. The big problem with such designs is that as they are foot operated (at the front) they naturally shuffle back toward the wall with use and either cannot be opened till they are pulled forward again or open but mark the wall. This unit sits happily against the wall with no problems.Would I reccomend this? Yes. For something so basic in function it has these few nice touches that just help make it easier and more enjoyable to use. What are the drawbacks? Just one; it is an expensive bin. I think that may be because the soft-closure capability is patented and so there is no just competition - if you want that nice action that is. So a brilliant but rather pricey bin!

Are you comfortable with the price?
You either know if you're conceptually on-board with spending this much on a bin. I'm not going to sway you on that one. If you are okay with the price, this is a great bin. I'd ummed and ahhed between this one and the Joseph and Joseph bin which was a similar price, but pulled the trigger on this one and would recommend it for the following reasons.- The silent close mechanism. I work in an environment, with foot pedal bins with no silent close mechanism and it grates every time I use one of them. At home I don't want this. And a foot pedal bin is a must for the kitchen I think - it just makes waste disposal easier and cleaner.- The individual compartments - how have I thought I was doing rubbish right without having nice discrete compartments for waste and recycling. They are a good fit and easily removed if needs be. They may well feel a bit small, but I think that's going to be a matter for your home life. For a family of three it feels plenty big enough.- The bin bags. If you're the right kind of nerd, having bin bags designed to perfectly fit your bin and be pleasingly thick and robust, it is deeply satisfying. You get a starter set of both the kinds of bags with the bin and even their packaging is well-designed and allows you to pull a single bin liner out and even has a little tab that gets pulled out when you're running low. If you live in the states they even have an app to help you order more. Sadly not for the UK, though.Yes, it's expensive and the liner are more expensive than the ones you buy in Tesco. But it works so well. And either that's enough for you to justify the price or it's not.
