From The Fires

I am tired of hearing " They sound like Led Zeppelin!"... really? Is that a bad thing ? Can you get to much Zeppelin? And remember this is the debut album of kids that had to get permission to get out of school & open for Bob Seeger & Elton John!!! Yes they sound like Led Zeppelin & Led Zeppelin sounded like The Small Faces, don't believe me listen to The Small Faces " Need your Love." Yes Robert Plant was a huge fan of The Small Faces & by the way " Need your Love" & " Whole Lotta Love" were both taken from Willie Dixon!!! My point is all bands have their influences & when they become successful enough they branch out & experiment. Led Zeppelin's last real album contained a straight up country song " Hot Dog" & " Fool in the Rain" was musically all over the place...in a great way with Island sounds, & many more musical influences all in one great song. These kids are already playing their instruments incredibly well & if given half a chance will grow carrying on with awesome Rock & Roll!!! Rock & Roll has never even come close to dyeing, you just need to search for it these days bands like " Hail Storm", " Falling in Reverse" & many others are out there, they just don't get the promotion needed. I've heard many people say Greta Van Fleet sounds like 70's music...again I ask is that a bad thing? Lenny Kravitz made a entire career championing the 70's sound, while still sounding fresh & contemporary. Let these youngsters grow & maybe years from now their music catalogue will be held in high esteem! Rock & Roll will never die...unless people let uptight suits that haven't figured out how to get their cut of the money actually convince people what they like or not! These youngsters came out of the gate on fire! Playing like they've been around for twenty years! Their music is high energy & a lot of fun, let their confidence grow and watch them blossom! You have your own ears & don't need critic's that seem to consistently miss the ball try & tell you what you like! It's time for good Rock & Roll, & Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Funk & good music to flood the Air Waves again!!! I'm sick of music promoting Gang Violence, Drugs, Demeaning Women & glorifying a Thug Life that none of these artist putting that crap out are living!!! In the immortal words of Ronny James Dio " Long Live Rock & Roll!"

I have to admit that when the only song I knew from Greta Van Fleet was " Highway Tune " I was very skeptical of this band because the song sounds so much like Led Zeppelin. After getting into this band more and hearing all of their songs it's obvious that they have different influences. There's a Sam Cooke cover and a Fairport Convention cover on here and " Talk On the Street " has a more original sound. The reviews on Amazon that say that everything from Greta Van Fleet sounds like Led Zeppelin are ridiculous and their new songs have less of a Led Zeppelin sound. This is a talented band that does great rock music. This is a very catchy double EP and it's not very often that I think something is 5 stars. I've heard their full length debut " Anthem of the Peaceful Army " and it doesn't seem to be as good as " From the Fires " but it does sound really good and I plan on buying it. This band seems to get a lot of praise and a lot of criticism. I've been really into music for 39 years and this band's music makes me happy, that's all that matters. Do they sound like Led Zeppelin on a lot of songs? Yes , but so have a lot of other bands. Blues based rock bands are going to sound a bit like Zeppelin. How many bands have copied The Beatles? Led Zeppelin copied other artists, that's how it is. If you have heard or read the criticism but haven't heard much of this band, check them out and make up your own mind. There is a reason they are selling out shows. I like that they are getting mainstream attention at a time when most rock bands don't get much mainstream attention. Very recommended.
