Does this item promote growth?

I don't think so, promoting growth is a tall order. Hair grows how it grows, a pomade will not promote growth. It does soothe my scalp and also seals in moisture beautifully.

No it's not grease, cream it's more of a oil base it works great.

Can it be used on the actual hair as well as the scalp?

I use this directly on the scalp. I can't think of any reason to use it directly on the hair or why it would be necessary. I have been very pleased with this product.

i really don't know aboutcucasian hair. i would suggest you get a small jar to try out. i buy it because i have an itchy scalp. i just part my hair and rub a little direction the scalp.
