this is a fantastic tribute to the original Japanese monster films and
Will it set the world on fire? No. However, this is a fantastic tribute to the original Japanese monster films and, in that respect, it does exactly what it says on the tin. Those opening the tin and expecting something different from the contents will, of course, be disappointed - but they can't really blame the product for that! The characters are archetypal, and reflect those that would always have featured in this type of film. The events follow the expected course and, as is common for this type of film, you can guess the fate of pretty-much each and every character from the moment you meet them. None of this spoils the film - as that is expected from this genre. So, if you are looking for a film that will leave you pondering the deeper meaning of life - this is not going to be your choice. If you are looking for massive fight scenes, things blowing up and general easy-watching mass-destruction - you should click to watch now.

brainless fun
It makes no sense but as has been said many times before if you want to see massive robots destroying cities and smashing up giant monsters then there is no better movies to watch. Bunker buster missiles with small tactical nukes inside would ace those monsters before they'd swum a yard towards a city but thats too easy. Build 20 story robots and have a fist fight. Yay.

One to watch
Watch it on something larger than a laptop and do not stop watching as soon as the credits start there is one surprise.I tend to be hit and miss with these sorts of films, but there was the right mix of story line and action for me. I found it gripping from the begining right throught to the end. Actually only two slight comlaints the man with the cane has to many eccentricities for my liking and if your brains are working as one you would not need to talk to each other, but then there are alot of inplausable things so......

feeling like a KID again
One of my favorite sci-fi movie. It homage to the age old Japanese anime - big robots fighting alien monsters. Yes you can argue that it donesn't have story like, with stereotypical characters, but that's the beauty of the movie. It is about the world coming together as an united front to fight to survive. And these robots with their drift compatebility shows that there is human connection that creates a bond - a family which you might not be born into, but is yours non the less. I can seriously keep watching it again, and again, and honestly I have.

Big Machines and Heroics.
I love this film. I'm an old girl and this reminds me of visiting the science museum when a teeny tiny nipper and seeing the absolutely massive Firgrove Mill tandem compound condensing engine, made by J. & W. McNaught, Rochdale, c.1907. It was thrilling, frightening, awe inspiring. I just love machinery. The film has great machinery, heroics, the bad guys getting their backsides kicked, courage in the face of great adversity, the ever classy Idris Elba, and a cute dog.Apparently there is a sequel called Pacific Rim Uprising. I'll give it a go when it comes out in July.

Lots of fighting not much depth of characters
Lots of English actors, annoying non existant british accent on scientist, characters i couldnt care for. Didn't know what to expect going into watching this and and maybe if it was just men in suits pretending to be giant creatures fighting would have at least had the campness to give it something about it like power rangers or something.

Best Monster Movie of the Past 20 Years
Pacific Rim is everything you could want from a Robot v Monster movie. Incredibly epic, visceral and impactful fight scenes, immersive sound design and a decent story that does its job very well. A self-aware film that knows what it is and delievers it with masterful execution.

A bit cheesy but goof scifi stuff
It was a bit cheesy but the aliens were good and the had a good range of interesting characters. It reminded me of the Warhammer Titanicus manned robots book which I liked so much, not as good a story but not bad. Recommended.
