Q: My humidifier is reading between 80-90% when my hygrometer reads under 60% Is something wrong with it? It's on a stool and not too close to anything.

The same thing has been happening with both of my new Levoit humidifiers. Try changing the setting to Auto or Warm Mist. I have been able to get the machine to respond 5 different times by changing the setting. The reading starts to plummet back down to the real humidity reading and the machine will turn on again. I have reached out to the company to let them know of the issue. We'll see what they do.

Q: Cool vs warm mist control: I am not clear on the controls when used together. What do each control?

Cool mist is the normal ultrasonic which basicly vibrates the water molecules until they turn to a mist. This transition from liquid to a visable vapor or gas feels cool to the touch, not cold but slightly cooler. If you turn on the heater to low or high it heats the liquid water making the mist feel warm. I dont use the heater because I dont have it misting on my body and it takes up alot more power. The warm mist is just the temp of the mist no other real effect or complications.

Q: How often do I change the filter? Thank you

That I’m not sure…. And of course I don’t use fancy water I use the water out of my tap water and it’s super easy the way they designed that part, but I would say since I’m using tap I probably want to change it before spring starts then summer? Then fall? N winter?

Q: Can you put water softening tablets in these? We have well water, not hard according to tests but would want to take the extra step if possible

No. Do not add softening tablets. You would just be adding more dissolved salts that would come out of solution and leave a crusty film. It would e worse than using well water.
