The speed of response and accuracy of this thermometer is excellent. The body is robust and smooth so it’s easy to wipe clean. It’s also waterproof, including the battery compartment, where all the control buttons are protected. It’s rare that you will want to alter the settings anyway, so this isn’t a problem and it avoids water ingress through leaky switch housings. The thermometer can measure temperature in either Celsius (centigrade) or Fahrenheit and it is switched on by opening the probe. This automatically switches on the lcd display and illumination. There is a sensor to determine the ambient light level and this saves on battery usage. If needed, you can switch on the display illumination by covering the sensor with your thumb. The display is self-orienting so makes readings easy to make regardless of the angle of the thermometer. The probe is thin and sharp and easily penetrates meat. Take care to open the probe gently from a position close to the pivot as the probe is a thin stainless steel tube not a solid steel rod - so don’t use it to prise lids from tins! The accompanying instruction booklet is the most comprehensive example that I have seen. It’s excellent. The thermometer may be on the pricey side, but compared to the slooow response of other thermometers I have used, I wouldn’t be without this one.

This was the third time I had purchased a cooking thermometer, and I should have chosen this at the outset, as they other two brands gave up the ghost just out of warranty.Very simply, robust construction, fast response, easy to clean - batteries haven't gone flat yet in over a year of continuous use. Great!

I've actually bought 3 of these now because after buying one and finding it so useful in the kitchen, I went out and bought them as presents for other keen cooks. Much better than my old digital thermometer. Despite the price you definitely get what you pay for here.

Don’t leave home without it for work

I held off buying a Thermapen for over a year because my cheap thermometer did the job. Bought it in a random splurge and really happy with it. I still like it’s a little over-priced, hence 4 stars not 5, but it’s fast, accurate, and solidly built. Recommended.

I've been using my red Thermapen for 4 years.Pros: it sits conveniently in hand which is great when you try to juggle hot trays, chunky mitts and recipe cards; the readings are large and bright and rotate like a phone screen depending on how you hold the thermometer; has been accurate, never glitched or had any surface defects during all these years; you can set up Fahrenheit or Celsius; it just looks good.Cons: I have to buy a new one as someone really liked it after watching me using it and I gave it away.

I gave this as a present however, I also own one myself and find it endlessly helpful.

Cool feature has the screen rotate depending on whether it is verticle or horizonal. Not much else to say as it tells you an accurate temperate and cooking meat has never been easier to keep it moist and juicy.
