Unimog lego technic model
Although a rather expensive outlay, this is a really enjoyable model to build. It's got instructions which are very easy to follow ( all 5 of them!) and it takes a good few hours to complete.I just kept thinking how clever the Lego engineers are in producing such a thing! It's just a case of what to do with it when it's complete....I wish I was a kid again! Speaking of which I think kids would find it good fun to build although some who are not familiar with Technic kits may need a bit of support. I've got my eyes on the remote controlled digger for when I get a bit of rainy day cash!...Great stuff

Complex but satisfying.
I have developed a taste for building Lego Technic models, if only because my young grandson who is too young for these, thinks they are amazing. This model has been out for a while and superseded by other vehicles but for sheer technical complexity it is hard to beat. Using a variety of complicated gears and hydraulics to operate the crane attachment it requires a fair degree of concentration to build. The instruction manuals ( 5 books ) are typical of the Technic range and provide all you need to build a successful model. The odd part on occasion was used but by following the guides and assembly drawings this was easily rectified. The finished article is quite a size and much bigger than I thought it would be.Overall a very satisfying model and there have been plenty of hours whiled away with my grandson as we learned to operate the hydraulic crane attachment which more or less mimic's the real thing.

Always wanted a Unimog ,even a model !!
At 69 I am not really into updating a Facebook or Twitter account so at Christmas I usually buy some sort of challenge, jig saw, model, etc to keep me sane, and away from the distractions of eating too much, watching hours of drivel repeat TV and so on.As I said, I like a challenge, but must admit that even I was somewhat taken aback by the size of the box that arrived from Amazon.I actually thought, my god, what have I done. This model is NOT cheap, in fact my wife thought I had lost my marbles, but , I always wanted a Unimog even a model one.Briefly, it took me approx 30 hours to assemble the model, spread over 3 weeks.it is huge!! but everything works fine and I am delighted with it. The plastic parts are of excellent quality and everything went together without problemsI have assembled many models over the years(started with Airfix Messerchmidts in the late 50,s) so I am not a beginner. However, I have never constructed a Lego model of this size and cost before and therefore started with some trepidation One thing that is at the forefront of your mind IS the cost.!! Failure is not an option .Based on my experience, I would offer the following advice to anyone thinking of buying this kit.1) in my view it is only suitable for experienced modellers, i.e., don't buy this as your first Lego kit.2) Work on a well lit table and only construct one module at a time --there are 5modules and 5 books. Ideally, you should be able to leave your work station as it ,is rather than have to clear up and put out the parts every time.3) READ the books and particularly make sure that the gear trains are assembled in the correct order, its easy to get it wrong (some of the gear wheel parts look very similar) . If you do get it wrong , you will only find out at the end when it does'nt work which will be VERY frustrating and will then be one hell of a job to sort out.My experience was that despite sometimes thinking the part was not in the bag after a search, it was always there. make sure its not on the floor!!4) Take your time. Putting this together is supposed to be satisfying .its not a race. !!Was I satisfied?Very much so, There are 2400 parts and putting them altogether in the right order is a satisfying challenge. It looks a great model, everyone has admired it, even my wife .So whats stopping you buying one.

The ultimate sophistication in construction toys
Challenging for all ages, totally absorbing and fascinating in its complexity. Typical Lego thoroughness in the packaging and the attention to detail in the instructions (5 books). Not cheap but worth every penny.

Massive.
Took me an estimated 12hours to build on and off.Absolutley amazing the function it uses made from Lego !This is the best set I have built and would recommend it over any other.I had a slight problem once I finished the build, and found out online that others had done the same, the centre diff had been put in in the wrong direction which was interfering with the steering rack. I HAD TO TAKE QUITE ALOT OF IT APART ! But a simple fix anyway. Once done works great and is truly Massive.
