Ms. Franklin stood the test of time
I purchased Ms. Franklin's classic album for the young adults in my family to keep them connected to the soulful sounds and lyrics of the 60s and 70s. I also bought this one to show how she was able to stand the test of time due to her talent. Many artist, even great ones, became out of touch during the 80s, but Ms. Franklin stayed strong with this collection. She always had crossover appeal, but when the 80's came upon us, it's blend and middle-of-the road-ness made music a bit more generic, but Ms. Franklin proved that she was adaptable. Her vocals actually game songs--whether she sang them alone or by way of collaborations--credence without losing or compromising her soul. I needed them to hear this pure and unique talent from this perspective.

Modern Aretha Collection, Missing Iconic Tracks
I've been a fan of Aretha for years, and she was high on my list to get on vinyl when I got a player. This album is a solid, if not stellar, choice and not one that I would dare call an "ultimate" collection. This feels more like a sampling of "modern" Aretha than a collection of her real well known work, since iconic songs like "Respect" and "A Natural Woman" are nowhere to be found. In place of iconic songs, you get a few well known songs like "Think" (which was performed in Blues Brothers, though a different version), as well as some unexpected covers like "Jumping Jack Flash" (w/ Kieth Richards no less), and Adele's "Rolling in the Deep". Certainly the covers are excellent songs, and Aretha delivers incredible performance, but they aren't the things that made her the Queen of Soul, so it's a little disappointing to see them sold under something so lofty as an "Ultimate Collection" title.

A VELVET VOICE
EXCELLENT CD, I DIDN'T HAVE TWO THIRDS OF THE TRACKS. I'VE GOT ALL HER EARLIER ALBUMS AS I KNOW OF SO SOME I DON'T BOTHER WITH AS DUPLICATING SONGS. I THINK A LITTLE PRICEY BUT STILL WORTH THE PRICE FOR 36 TRACKS. CRYSTAL HAS A VOICE THAT IS LIKE VELVET BUT STRONG OTHER WISE SOFT AND GENTLE. I THINK IF THIS IS THE FIRST CD ANY ONE BUYS THEN THEY WILL PERCHASE MORE AFTER LISTENING TO THESE SONGS OF CRYSTAL GAYLE. A COUNTRY ICON AND LORETTA LYNNS YOUNGER SISTER
