Buy Machine Learning For Dummies 1 by Mueller, John Paul, Massaron, Luca (ISBN: 9781119245513) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Attention to detail - Bought that as a new learning tool. It does the job. Good book. Review: Surprising level of valuable Insight into ML for an Introductory Text - I am reading through rad Kuhns brilliant Applied Predictive Modelling, and various other detailed Machine learning texts. (Gave up on numerous books when the maths got too heavy. ) I bought this as a lighter summer refresher read, and to get into applying R Machine learning. This book is really quite impressive in providing a lot of useful insight and explanation into core machine learning principles and application. So after a rather slow start on justifications of machine learning and the necessary setting up of both Python and R Machine learning, the book eventually gets into the real subject matter at Chapt 9, and goes through basic probabilistic, naïve bayes, before concentrating on Gradient descents , Overfitting, PCA and SVD reduction, k Means clustering and K nearest neighbour classification algorithms are easily explained. Then in to the linear methods, Neural nets, SVMs and Random Forests are well explained. The EigenFaces explanation and execution for Face recognition was new to me, even though I have read a number of detailed deeper books on Machine learning. Extensive links are provided throughout and within context the text to offer expansions on detail, without detracting from the flow. If you want an easier introduction to Machine Learning, without being exposed to excessive maths to cloud your insights, this is an excellent way to get into the subject and start applying the technology in Python and R from the get go. Don't be a ML snob, get this book if you want to get into ML.

A great introduction to machine learning
A great introduction to machine learning. I work in an analytical team and got this book as an addition to our team bookcase. The book serves as a good first step in understanding what machine learning is and include both R and Python code; this is particularly useful as both codes are open source and free to use. Some have said that the book is too basic but I think there is plenty to get your teeth into here. Once this book has been mastered you might want to buy something not for dummies.

Not exactly the best book for beginner to dive into
Not exactly the best book for beginner to dive into. Extra research must be done to clear understand the concepts in this field. Not enough practical examples.

Recommended for the curious.
Once again, although they say this book is a Dummies guide, you have to be a reasonably smart dummy. Having recently reviewed "Weapons of Math Destruction" Weapons of Math Destruction: How Big Data Increases Inequality and Threatens Democracy this fell on the doormat and my interest was immediately gripped. It's not an easy read, that is don't expect the slightly patronising style of earlier Dummies books; but it is a clear introductory text and for a rank outsider like myself it provides a practical way into this fascinating and important subject. It's full of web addresses to check out, often several to a page, and I felt that I wished I had an eBook version - where I presume the links would have been alive. It starts by talking about AI and ML and comparing them. I found the writing style engaging and drawing me in a credit to the editors and authors, and once we had moved from that part of theory and into programming I found myself wanting to have a go - this is not a subject I'm familiar with, but it had engaged me. On the whole, as an introductory text, this is another good sign that the Dummies guides are maturing and prepared to tackle difficult subjects in a way that an averagely intelligent person can pick up and learn from. Recommended for the curious.

Excellent text.
This is another excellent book from the For Dummies stable. Clear, well-organised and approachable. And the subject is right up there at the cutting edge of computing. Back in the olden days when I learned programming it was all reports and maths - now, here we are teaching computers to learn and to think. It is brilliant stuff! This book will take you through the basics from an overview of AI and how machines learn, to the two main languages (R and Python) you need, and how to use them - and what the programs you create can do for you. It covers installation and use of programs on all home computer compatible operating systems: Linux, Windows and Mac. Machine learning has amazing possibilities - it enables computers to learn from the real world and this has so many applications: sales, medicine, criminology, automotive functions and so much more. It is amazing - and this excellent book makes a great first text for anyone studying or wanting to study the subject.

The "Dummies" always exceed your expectations by not only explaining complex things in a simple way, but also by giving you extra details and sufficient range of professional real-world issues that will actually make you look professional on a new topic in a typical industry-pro conversation and even a job interview. Love to recommend those books and sometimes read them myself as it is the fastest way to get a proper introduction and directions for further study.

il testo da un quadro esaustivo di ciò che si intende per machine learning.Ad una prima lettura risulta rilevante il quadro generale. E anche il modo di poter costruire con python.

I was looking for a book that explains me well the differences between AI and Machine Learning, and inside Machine learning the different practices or areas and how these can be applied according to different business needs. I did encounter some of this, but the 80% of the book is focused on programming environments... but I do not blame the book it was my fault for not reading carefully the outline of the book. Nevertheless I guess that this is going to be a good book for those seeking more detailed or deep approach to Machine Learning.

Usualmente me gusta tener un "...for dummies" cuando quiero estudiar por las distintas notas y lo fácil que es de digerir. Este no es una excepción. Muy buen libro introductorio.
