A Drumhead for the 21st Century
I hesitated (at the price!), but this head exceeded expectations for me.I can only comment on my own tuning, which is somewhere between medium and high, but this is the first, and only, head I've used on my snare where I didn't feel the need for even the smallest piece of Moongel. It gets rid of the annoying overtones - to the point that they are non-existent towards the centre of the drum - yet rim shots and playing at the edge really let the shell sing; this was particularly important for me because I wanted to use it on a Black Beauty and the DW Carbon Fibre snares, both of which have very distinctive rim/shell sounds. When you first take it out of the box, you will wonder how on earth this is going to work: it is seriously heavy in weight compared to 'normal' heads, and has absolutely no inherent tone when you tap it with your finger. But once it's on the drum, it really comes to life, with much more attack (and, I reckon, volume) than my previous heads, the Evans HD Dry. It is also, apparently, incredibly hard wearing (I don't care because I'm not a hard hitter), and really works with brushes too.Downsides? So far, none. Subjectively, is there perhaps just a tad less bounce when you crush the stick into a buzz? Maybe I'm imagining that.Overall, now that the price is forgotten, I'm completely happy. (Oh, and it looks incredibly cool too)

This drum head should be more popular
Okay, so its expensive..Just buy it if you have a snare thats worth it. Honestly it took me awhile to take the plunge and its one of my favorite heads. I put this on a Tama G-Maple 13x7 and it absolutely sounds great at low - med - and med high pitch ranges. (I have yet to crank it really high) Sensitivity is great and really gives my particular snare ALOT of body and crack as thats its character. The feel of the skin is great as well for ghosting and didn't take long to get used too. All in all Im writing this review to thank Evans for a great product and for you fellow drummers who are thinking about it.

For the hard hitters!
Tuned right it has a great tone. It definitely has less overtones or ring to it. It feels natural to play and looks stunning too.

4 years later and still sounds great!
Not purchased through amazon, but I've owned this head for about 4 years now. SAME ONE, and it still sounds amazing! Whether you crank it up high and tight, or low and phat. This head has stood up to years of heavy hitting. I can't say enough about this head. I now have a Ludwig Black Beauty, and I'm definitely going to purchase this head for it.I feel like it's been really easy to get a great tone from this head. You won't be disappointed
