Easy to use, makes searchable pdfs
This book scanner makes it easy to scan in entire books to pdf's that are searchable. I am older with very bad eyesight so I have problem with paper books, I need ebooks that I can expand on my iPad or computer. This scanner allowed me to scan in technical books quickly into pdfs that I could search for my own use. You can check at stages on the way to make sure everything is scanning properly. I wish I found this years ago. I have had to buy the paper books for classes, then searched for the books in electronic format (when available) and bought them again in electronic format, so buying the book twice. Now I can just buy them once. I love this scanner, it is great for people with eyesight problems.

The quick and easy way to create searchable PDFs - even in Chinese
My research requires me to read simplified and traditional Chinese texts on a range of topics. The biggest challenge when investigating a new topic is the new vocabulary one encounters. While dictionary searches come with the territory, they can be cumbersome , so I appreciate using searchable PDFs that can be imported into an iPad and can be used with point-and-click dictionaries like PlecoDict.Over the years I've come up with (cumbersome) workarounds to create searchable PDFs from hard-copy texts, but they always required figuring out ways to 'flatten' the warped lines of texts that result unless the scanned documents were perfectly flat. This device and its associated software handles all of these issues. You simply arrange the open document- completely flat or not - beneath the camera and light(s), press the 'scan' button (or foot pedal) and the side-by-side pages are scanned, separated into individual pages, 'flattened', made into individual searchable PDF pages, and then combined into a single compact PDF document. The most amazing bit of the process are the two finger tabs that are used (along with with foot pedal) to hold the pages during scanning, but are not 'visible' to scanning process. When I purchased the scanner, I was slightly dubious that the system would be as impressive as it sounded. It took about 5 minutes of use - scanning 20 pages of bound text to create a searchable PDF - to convince me that it did precisely what it claimed.

Doesn’t Work
I really wanted to love this product. Good price with great promise but I just couldn’t get the software to work. Followed all instructions. Even deleted and downloaded the software multiple times, restated the computer, contacted technical support, etc. Nothing worked. Found an app for my phone that essentially does the same thing for way less and no extra hardware/software. Hopefully that works. Their tech support was VERY fast though (like 1 hour response time via email!), which I appreciated a lot. Just sucks they couldn’t really help me figure it out.

A good book scanner that is a good compromise among quality, price, and (scanning) speed
This is a decent overhead book scanner at this price point. The software does a pretty good job flattening up the pages during a scan. Around 200 to 250 pages and below are generally problem free. Unfortunately, there is more distortion with thicker books. This is probably because you have to pull the book flat, and it is difficult to do this with very thick books. I presume that you would get better results with book scanners with a v shaped cradle such the (CZUR M3000 Pro), but then you are spending $2800 (or more) for this privilege. I have never used one of these types of book scanners so I am only speculating.Alternatively, you could use a book scanner like the OpticBook A300 Plus which gives you a really nice scan, but at the $1500 price point. The trade off with the OpticBook is that it is much slower than the CZUR ET 24 Pro.If you look at the two attached photos of the same page, the scan from the CZUR ET24 Pro (black and white) is pretty good compared with the OpticBook A300 Plus (greyscale). A little distortion, but unless you want perfection or need an archival scan, the CZUR ET24 Pro definitely holds its own.CZUR could improve the product by including TWAIN driver so you could use it with VueScan (or other third party software). In addition, it would be nice to have detailed instructions (i.e., a comprehensive user manual) on the various functions of the scanner. Some other points. • Use the side light for glossy/reflective surfaces. • The foot pedal is a must especially if you are holding both sides of a book wide open. • I found that I did not need to use the finger cots and used my fingers instead to hold the book open. There is a setting in the software that removes your fingers. • I haven’t used the HDMI video output so I will not comment on that function. In conclusion, there is no perfect book scanner. It is all a compromise among quality, price, and speed (needed to scan a book). The CZUR ET24 Pro isn’t perfect, but the scanner wins with price and speed by sacrificing some quality. If you want a flatbed scanner such as the OpticBook A 300 Plus, you have better quality at the cost of price and speed. Finally, if you want an overhead book scanner with a v shaped cradle, that solution wins with quality and speed, but it loses with cost. Thus, depending on your needs, the CZUR ET24 Pro is a worthy consideration for a book scanner.

There is a better Choice - SV600
Understand this. I am comparing the CZUR ET24 to the Fuijitsu SV600.The SV600 book scanner is a much better product. Do not Buy the CZUR ET24.I would rate the Et24 on a scale of 1 to 10, a Three.I would rate the SV600 as a Nine out of Ten.The SV600:1. Simpler to operate.2. Ambient light has almost no impact on images taken.3. Colors are correct, no messing a round with software.4. FastThere are two versions of software for the SV600.ScanSnap HomeScanSnap Manager (Older)I like the older software better as it does not constantly check for updates.Once you figure out the operation of the software it produces images consistently. The SV600 is especially good for scanning non-book objects, photographs, small objects. You just put the object on the black mat and press the button, perfect image. The only issue would be if the page or object you are imaging has a black edge the scanner can notauto-crop perfectly. To solve that, just put something white under the document that is slightly larger.
