Good book for grown-ups
This is an odd book, i want to say it was enjoyed by us all, but it was only enjoyed by the adults. i think it's a kids book for grown ups! It feels stupid saying that, but the jokes throughout the story are not going to be appreciated by children, in my opinion. It sends a very clear message....don't try and overreach, and it's better to be yourself, and stopp worrying about being in the rat race. The story centres around a dog called Raymond, he wants to be more than a dog, he wants to be human, and he eventually gets to sit at the dinner table, starts reading the dogs version of Vogue, (dogue) and he actually gets a job as a reporter for dogue, thrusting him and his family into the high life, but it's only when he's on holiday, does he realise that he's been missing out on being a dog, chasing balls, having his belly scratched etc. I enjoyed the book, because it does make you reevaluate your life, and makes you wonder where you're putting your priorities, but I don't think it'll be as much of a hit for the kids.

Excellent book, great original story
Amazing book. I loved reading it and hope that there are more books from the same authors. It is a story about Raymond the dog. He has a happy home life with his owners but then he takes on a different life that eventually consumes his every waking moment. Things get out of hand and the story has a happy ending. It is beautifully written, very funny and I couldn't help think that this has a hidden message about life in the fast lane. Sometimes the simple things in life are the best. There is a very good moral to the story and I think parents would enjoy reading this book as much as children. I will pass the book on to my daughter who is working as a teacher in a junior school. I think the children would love it and the discussions that this book would generate would be very interesting. The detail in the pictures are outstanding, right down to Raymond the dogs mug with his name on "Ray" :-) I received an ARC book from Walker Publishers.

This would be a wonderful book to read as a bedtime story, or even as a class read.
Raymond is a happy dog. He likes having his belly rubbed and snuggles on the sofa, but one day he realises that he wants more out of his life, he wants to be just like a human. He wants to sit at the table and eat with his family and walk on two legs, not four. Raymond hadn’t only begun to act like a human, he’d started a trend. All the other dogs wanted to be just like a human too. His ambitions didn’t stop there, he wanted to be a reporter for Dogue magazine, which in turn made him famous and he became the face of the biggest dog television programme. Being famous and working hard had its downfalls though. Is Raymond happy being like a human or, would he rather just be a normal dog again? Raymond, is a large sized book (just over A4 size), that not only contains a wonderful, imaginative story, but is filled to the brim with bright and colourful, full page illustrations. The story is hilarious and although this is a book aimed at young children, a lot of the fun references only a grown up would understand – think Toy Story. This would be a wonderful book to read as a bedtime story, or even as a class read. I can see kids being amused and amazed at a dog that wants to be a human. I thought it was brilliant, and would be happy to recommend it to everyone. Book Reviewed on Whispering Stories Book Blog *I received a free copy of this book, which I voluntarily reviewed
