Finally found a true CAT6 cable on Amazon. This is a true CAT6 cable. The thin, flat cables you see on Amazon are not CAT6, 6E or 7 as claimed. CAT6 cable uses a wire thickness of 23AWG, thicker than any flat cable available. Cat5 uses AWG 26 wire, CAT6 uses thicker AWG 23, (The larger the number, the smaller the wire); the thicker 23AWG wire increases capacity and speed of the cable, especially over longer distances, up to 300 feet, (100 meters). CAT6 will be relatively thicker than other cables, and usually has a centre core, shaped like the plus sign (+) that keeps each twisted pair separated, to reduce cross-talk and improve data throughput. CAT6 Ethernet cable is shielded to prevent electrical interference and 'cross-talk'; a phenomenon created when two or more wires/cables are in close proximity to one another, flat cables are notorious for this, but you will probably not notice with home use, the slower speeds when 'cross-talk' happens.CAT6 has a limited length of 300 feet, but Cat6 cables can support the higher speed required by a 10 Gigabit network. However, they have a reduced maximum length, (164 feet) for extreme high speed, after which the ultimate speed distance of Cat6 cables is the same as Cat5e cables. At a frequency bandwidth of 250MHz, Cat6 cables offer additional performance advantages including reduced signal loss, less 'cross-talk' with other cables, and cleaner two-way communication on each pair of wires due to a tighter twist in the cables.
