USELESS PIECE 0F JUNK
This was the biggest waste of $500+ dollars I have ever spent. I purchased before I moved to the mountains, so didn't have the opportunity to install it for about 6 months, but I had it to be prepared. From the day it was installed, it has NEVER worked correctly. The tags would not register to open the dog door unless pur dogs face was smooshed up against it for a few seconds. We troubleshooted everything we could. We were told it was probably that our front door was incompatible with the dog door. So we bought a whole new door, exactly what is recommended. Nothing changed. We ended up having to just leave it unlocked and pray that nothing got in and our indoor cat didn't get out. The quality is TRASH. Very cheaply made. We have had to adjust and readjust and rig it to stay in the brand new door that we purchased for this dog door. Its cheap plastic and pieced have popped out and cracked. The "seal" let's ALL the cold air in. Because it no longer seals, and hasn't for most of the time I've owned this. I live at 9,300 feet in the Colorado Rocky Mountains where it gets into the -° temps, and not only did I pay over $500 for this piece of trash, it raises my electric bill because it let's cold air in all the time. And it will randomly lock itself so that my dogs are stuck outside. Which is DISGUSTING for a company that calls themselves "peysafe" I'm fed up and currently looking for a replacement. I will never recommend ANYTHING from this brand. Do not waste your money! Their customer service hasn't been worth much either. So so so SO DISAPPOINTED

Great Customer Service
The first unit I received wouldn't complete the synch process between the app on my phone and the door. I called PetSafe customer service and worked with a delightful company rep. We went through some trouble shooting steps that didn't do anything. She passed my issue on to their tech team to see if they could duplicate the issue (potentially an issue working with iOS devices after a firmware update for the door a couple of days before). The rep kept me up to date by email throughout the day as the tech team tried to duplicate my issue from their end. By the end of the day they were not able to duplicate it and shipped a replacement door that day. I received the replacement the next business day and it works flawlessly. I followed the PetSafe training material and my dogs (who had never used a dog door before) took four days to get used to the door and to use it without me encouraging them or giving treats.

Don't buy it. Never worked right, replacement never worked right, wasted so much money
I bought this in May of '23 and have been struggling to make it work ever since. Paid several hundred to have it installed professionally. It would not reliably stay connected to wifi - it uses the 2.4GHz band exclusively which a mesh repeater won't help you with, and that technology will be going away anyway - and even worse, the latch would jam at random times and strand my dog outside in the deadly heat. He became extremely leery of it and would only go through it on his own if we left it completely unlocked and were actually at home in the house. Well, so much for being housebroken; if we left the house he'd eliminate inside to keep from being trapped by the thing. We tore out all of our carpeting and replaced it with solid surfaces. So that completely negates the point of having a dog door, and having to leave it unlocked was just a huge security liability. I spent hours and hours rebooting the thing, wrestling with the app to keep it connected, deleting and reinitializing every time it would disconnect itself. They sent me a replacement door which I spent another few hundred installing, with the same issues. I finally asked them for my purchase price back, courteously and after many, many hours of online troubleshooting with them, because it's got a year warranty which we're six months into and I cannot fight this battle anymore. I want my home to be safe and my floors not to be ruined; it's such a small ask. They refused to honor it, even after going up the supervisor chain, and I am out thousands of dollars because I thought they were a good company and would do the right thing. And the kicker is I'd gotten this to replace a High Tech brand door that worked flawlessly for twelve years, thinking this would be the smart upgrade. More fool I; won't buy from this company ever again.

Works ok, looses connectivity sometimes.
We had the old smart door that worked very well! Batteries died quick but worked awesome. We switched to this one so we could change the settings for our cat to use it when it’s not hunting season for her. She brings in all kinds of things if we don’t lock the dog door in the summer. It’s nice to customize and see when the dog comes in and out. I’ve gotten tired of it not connecting and working intermittently, so right now it’s just set to open. It’s also REALLY loud and wakes us up sometimes if they use it at night. Not sure that I made the right choice switching over both dog doors but they work well enough if you have the same issue as me needing to keep one animal out.

BEWARE!! I did the "used like new" option for a better deal, and it LOCKED ME OUT, WILL NOT WORK!!
"v1.01 is not supported by the app anymore, please call customer support for a replacement". I don't have ability to get a replacement because it's technically used, and I'm wondering if there's even hardware advancements made since v1.01.. I called the company and they took foreverrrr to get ahold of, the first number they gave me was to a RECYCLING CENTER! and this was given to me directly by a representative on their website!! That's ridiculous, not even a typo because it's all over their website I realized later. But anyways I found a USA/Canada number eventually, and after waiting forever I got ahold of someone that ended up forwarding me to the technical department, who tried obfuscating the fact they just didn't wanna tell me, I know he could of found out if he didn't know, and the lady who forwarded me to technical told me they'd 100% answer that question, I got litterally no information about the hardware advancements whatsoever in any way, even when directly asking about the wifi module and RFID antenna/module. So the app locked me out, and the door won't work whatsoever without the app, and I'm wondering if they locked me out because they upgraded the hardware since v1.01, or if this is just a bigger political scandal in itself, the software locking me out of something I buy is something I strongly disagree with, and a new standard needs to be set for smart products in general, they should not be allowed to do this, it's 1 thing if the v1.01 hardware was shotty, but entirely different to lock users out of their own belongings JUST because they can.. And if the hardware was shotty in v1.01 that's their own fault, no good reason whatsoever to lock people out of the app, not needed and that's coming from a technical pro who codes for fun for about 16 years now. The wifi light on the product housing actually stopped lighting up at all when I was tinkering with the door, the Bluetooth and wifi both were refusing to work, and I remember reading reviews that mentioned the same thing, even though I was locked out of the app i experienced this as well, and maybe that's a reason they wanted to abandon v1.01 but also not mandatory to lock people out just because problems that seem to be inconsistent, customer support maybe got tired of dealing with people complaining about the older versions, I'm not sure, personally I'm gonna order the door for full price and do further testing, and compare the hardware on the inside to see if there's advancements on the physical side, or if this is a bigger scandal in itself. Also if you buy this door, don't forget to call them and register your warrenty! Will edit my review after I receive the new version of this product.

Worth the Money
This is a good pet door, especially if you need something that you can open or close while not at home. The wifi operation works great. The only issue I have with it is the button for manual open and close is in the battery backup location. So, when I'm not home and my wife needs to open or close the door she has to remove the battery cover every time. My wife doesn't do apps very well, she's old school. Other than that it's a great door.

We like it, but it’s imperfect
The GREAT: -This door is WiFi enabled and does lock and unlock easily with the app. This was what we wanted it for; to stop our dog from going outside and barking while we were away, but giving her a chance to use the restroom if we would be out for a while (we talk to her through a camera and she runs outside; when she runs back in, we lock it back up). Our dog only barks when we’re gone and it’s become an issue with the neighbors, but she’s a senior and can’t hold off going to the bathroom as long as she used to. This is the (almost) perfect solution to prevent accidents but also keep neighbors from complaining!! We don’t use the RFID tag, so I can’t speak a lot to that. We just check cameras to see if she has come back inside, but whenever we tested the tag, it did seem to work. We just don’t need it. We had it professionally installed by door installers, so I can’t speak to struggles there either. (I didn’t trust us to cut through fiberglass correctly.) But it took them less than an hour, including removing our exterior door and getting it back on. The meh: -The manual buttons to lock and unlock this door are underneath the battery compartment sheath. That kind of sucks because you have to either remove the sheath or get out your phone just to lock/unlock it. Sometimes you’re tired or have a guest house-sitting and just want to use the manual option. Having to remove the cover is a slight inconvenience, but doable. At least it’s on top. (Leaving it off entirely is a bad idea because as the door is slammed about 10x/day, the batteries slip ever so slightly without it. Maybe that’s just us though.) -It’s also kind of loud, as others have mentioned. While we appreciate that it seems to seal better than our previous dog door, it’s also louder. But for us, it’s not a deal-breaker. It’s not wake-you-up-down-the-hall loud, but maybe wake-a-sleeping-infant-in-the-next-room loud. -It requires more from the dog. If you’re using RFID, the door takes a (loudish) moment to unlock after recognizing the tag. Our dog is a wimp. She nosed the door, it was locked, and didn’t stick around the requisite 5s for the door to unlock and try again. So we don’t use RFID and if she tries it and it’s unlocked, cool. If it’s locked, she still doesn’t retry until we coax her, either in person or over a camera speaker. And we’ve had it for a couple months now. It’s not for timid dogs. It’s also a heavier door than standard flap models, so it takes more effort to push it and hold it up. Not a ton more, but enough that an injured or easily discouraged dog might be foiled. The bad: -This thing is enormous. Our dog is 24lbs but kind of lanky. This dwarfs her, but a size down would have been too small. A medium would be perfect, but it doesn’t exist. There is also the fear, albeit slight, that a human could kick this in and break in by crawling through it. It’s that big. But it’s not street visible and it would need a lot of kicking. Maybe easier to break a window, if they’re determined. We do wish there were some kind of locking insert add-on that you could slide in when on vacation, or even at night. -The door is deep. It makes sense that it would protrude a bit more than a standard dog door due to the electronics, but it sticks out waaay too much on the exterior. Unless you have a 6” deep door, which strikes me as unlikely, this is pretty unnecessary. It’s unsightly, adds a lip for water to collect and potentially get into the product/exterior door (if you’re not a master caulker), and the worst part is that it’s an extra few inches for the dog to have to clear. If you have a Great Dane, no prob, but for a medium sized dog like ours, especially for a senior with many of the attendant mobility issues that come with age, it’s sub optimal. Our dog did hurt herself on it once (she has a bad back and sort of has to jump through this door- she must have taken a bad step but seemed okay the next day). I don’t think ALL dogs would have trouble, or even most, but it’s worth considering the trade-off for WiFi access if you have a dog with mobility issues.

Doesn't work as advertised
I was using without any problem a cat door from SureFlap, but I wanted to control which cat could go out and when. After some research, I decided to buy the SmartDoor which was supposed to do the job. When I received it I learned I needed to spend an extra $100 to mount it to a wall. That door is big, much bigger than the SureFlap, hence a large hole in the wall, and a very cumbersome installation. The setup with the app is not straightforward, and the app is not as easy as it should be. If you need to change something in the schedule you cannot, you have to delete the scheduled action and reprogram it. I understand the idea behind the frosted flap, but an option to get a transparent flap will be appreciated. Imagine being a cat and having to use the door not knowing what's going on on the other side. My cat used to enjoy their personal window with the previous cat door. The main issue is the door randomly not reading the microchip leaving a very frustrated cat not being able to use the door. The other problem is the very very very slow process of unlocking the door when a cat is in front of it (that's when it works) which leads the cat to walk away from it before it's fully unlocked. I'm very pissed off to have spent a lot of money on something which doesn't live up to its promises. I can't even step back and reinstall my previous cat flap, the hole in the wall is now way to big for it...

Don’t buy!
All is great initially, then you notice your door doesn’t unlock. So you re-pair. Great it works again for a few days then stops recognising the fob again. You buy new fobs and pair them. But if your dog’s head is slightly bowed when approaching the door it doesn’t trigger. Tech support is US based and all by chat - which they don’t answer. Save your money. Buy an ordinary dog flap.

Produit A FUIR !!!!

Do not buy
Solid door but smart is not what it is. It won’t pick up dog key and keeps going off line so no access to door from app. Very over priced for a smart door that is not smart.
