A little bit of knowledge is needed to fit this.
My computer case is not within easy reach from where I sit. I was looking for a way to be able to turn it on and off without having to get up from my chair. Yes, I know that’s being lazy! I spotted this simple little remote on Amazon and it fitted my needs perfectly.Fitting such a device is not for the faint-hearted and you do need a little knowledge to successfully install it. You will also need a spare USB2 header socket on your motherboard. If you don’t know what that is, then this is not for you.You have to insert the module into an empty USB2 header socket. Then trace where your power and reset buttons on your case attach to your motherboard. Remove those leads and reattach them to the pins on the module’s lead. Then using the plugs on the said lead and plug them into the motherboard. Doing it this way means the buttons on your case will still work.Once this is done and you’ve put the supplied battery into the remote, you are ready to go. If everything is done correctly, pressing the buttons on the remote will now control your system power and reset buttons. The range that the remote works will vary on your case design. If it’s all metal, then the range will be a few feet only. If your case has an acrylic or glass panel on it, the range will be a lot better. My case has a small acrylic window and I can operate the remote anywhere in the room and it works. If you don’t have a spare USB2 header socket, then all might not be lost as long as you have at least one on your motherboard. If the device already plugged into USB2 header socket is only looking for power, then you can use the supplied adapter unit. The adapter only replicates the 5V power and not any data lines.Overall, a fairly simple idea that works well and is very handy in this remote-control world we live in.

Great device, horrible remote
Installed and everything worked fine, however the remote was eating up batteries. Wouldn't last a week, even with premium batteries. Now the remote doesn't work at all so the item is pretty much useless. The website to contact customer support is all over the place, but sent a request anyway and got nothing. Don't waste your time.

Excellent device!
This little gadget is awesome! For most people it is something that they will not need but it is very cool to have. I found it very useful as at the present time I am not within arms reach of my PC so turning it on is as simple as using this remote (or resetting it as sometimes the case might be).Installing this was very easy. Just plug the device into a spare USB header on the motherboard. If you want it to face a different angle they include a splitter to do this (it should be noted that this is NOT meant as a splitter to allow multiple devices to be plugged into). From here, the Y cable included makes a quick job of installing. Plug the device cables for reset and power into the correct places and the cables from the front of the case into the Y cable and you'll be set. The tool to open the remote is included as well as a button battery. If it doesn't work just ensure you change the required settings in BIOS (instructions explain what you need to do although rather vague) and if it still doesn't work, look over the device to make sure the cable connecting to it (leading to the front case header) has not come loose, I found this cable to be very bad at staying in place and just handle the device carefully because it doesn't look very strong.Overall, it works perfectly and will be very handy especially for those who get home and can press this to boot up their PC (especially if it takes a while to boot) or have a wall mounted case.

Remote control your pc! (Do mind the remote controller being put together just the right way)
Right so straight to the point why 4 stars, the remote really it does not have the longest range, mind you I have a metal case AND double sided plasterboard wall with plenty of insulation in between me and the computer, I need to point it toward the general direction of the PC in order to turn it on, but it beats having to run into a separate room just to restart or turn on my pc.Installation is very simple, comes with a splitter but you do not have to use it at all, if you have a USB2 header (usually right next to the front panel header) just plug and play from there, the 2 wires it comes off with are for Reset and Power, you do NOT have to connect both if you dont want to, I did as it makes it simpler to force restart if I ever need to. It has a y splitter on the cable as well (props to silverstone on this) so you can still use your own case power button and reset if you need to!.The extra splitter is nice, but I dont imagine that many people needing it, who uses usb2 headers nowadays anyway. The remote is easy to take apart, just align it properly when putting it back together as you might make the reset button get stuck, if its stuck after you press it once, take it apart and re-align it as its not put together correctly. Takes a regular 2030 battery from what I can see didnt pay much attention to it as it comes with it.You also get a small precision screwdriver if you dont have one already to disassembly the remote. Was up and running with it in no time, took maybe 5 minutes or so, with most of the time taken re-assembling the remote to align it properly.

Easy to use
My PC is under the back of my desk, I got fed up having to get down on my knees to turn it on. It's all well made and the switch part is easy to fit on the motherboard by following the supplied instructions. Now it's easy to start my Pc with the remote fob instead of getting on my hands and knees under the desk.
