Not as good as the book, but still a good interpretation of it.
The book The Stand is the best book i've ever read, so any film or made for tv series was always going to be difficult to be as great as the book, but this is a really good effort and is quite enjoyable.

Bit tame by today's standards
Bought for myself it's okay not watching it again

My favourite film
This is easily my favourite film of all time. Regardless of the fact it is a tv. movie, the film is amazing. From the very first scene the acting is superb, the fear of the trapped scientists is extremely believable, and Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't fear the reaper" creates a very chilling atmosphere to begin the film with.As the film progresses, the viewer is shown what happens when both science, and fantasy combine. The ancient rivalry of good versus Evil is well presented in a modern day situation. The story leads to a climax that is acceptable but nowhere near as good as it should have been in scale with the rest of the film.Sound and Special Effects are ok, nothing especially breath taking, and the effects in the last scene are a definate anti climax. However this is made up for by the non-flashy effects experienced earlier in the film, such as the stigmata-guitar scene. In summary, the outstanding plot of this film, coupled with the highly developed characters (which is definately what makes this film so brilliant) make for a story of almost epic proportions.Buy it now, and you will be glad you did.

An amazing mini-series.
This is probably one of my favourite adaptions of a Stephen King novel, the film/mini-series' monstrous length only reflects the book's equally humongous page count (around 1300 pages). Of course, things have been taken out, but that was unavoidable. Regardless, they add what is necessary and remove what they need to in order to not run on for longer than the mini-series format allows.Plus, I adore the depiction of Randell Flagg who is both charming, sinister and hilarious ('rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub') as he builds his society of miscreants in Los Vegas. The delivery was fast and the discs all work, thus I have no problems with it.

Not the best Stephen King adaptation. Not the worst. It's OK, but no better.
As Stephen King book adaptations go, this is probably not one of the best. Might be the longest though.Only bought it as it was going cheap so not much to lose either way.The quality is not all that. I guess it's a straight transfer from VHS maybe?I don't want to give the story away, but for SK readers it's pretty much standard format. There are good guys and bad guys and not much in between. The plot is a bit thin and doesn't hold together all that well if ou spend more than a couple of seconds thinking abut it.This looks to be a small budget production. I assume it was shown on TV when it was made. I don't remember seeing it, so maybe it didn't make it over the pond. The script leaves a lot to be desired as does a lot of the acting. Mostly very wooden and false apart from a few good actors. I'd equate the acting to be on a par with "The Langoliers". Some good people, but mainly bad. Some are the same, now that I think of it.It is unclear how many episodes there are as the menu gives you options to play episodes 1 -3 4 -6 and s on, but there is no cut off between them, so unless you keep en eye on the clock you have no idea where you were if you watch in separate sessions which given the length is probably going to be the case. I made a note each evening as to the time I'd got to so I could FF to that point. This could have been so much better but it's let down by poor script, poor acting, poor jut about everything. For the life of me I couldn't underatnd the point of some of the "hero" team walking to Vegas. Unless there is some reference to either this world or other SK worlds I'm missing, it just doesn't make any sense whatsoever in terms of plot development and results in what exactly?A couple nice cameos by SK himself. adding a bit of comic element to the proceedings.Didn't quite like the end either. Too easy and too happy clappy. One of nothing types of film. I neither hated it nor did I love it. It just left me .. Knaaaarrrr. Not a scratch on Salem's Lot, Village of the Damned (Albeit, the children were more funny than scary), Children of the Corn, IT, etc..... It's more akin to the lesser well made ones, like the Pet Cemetary /PC 2.Only recommended for SK die hard fans who must have everything that's ever been made. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother. Watch Carnevale instead.
