Got to give a five...... yeah 5*Okay, what you need to know is the adjusting string is hard to move, so soak it first! The string when soft adjusts easily. The Sludge Bag worked almost to perfection! This is meant to be a fine mesh, well it is to a point...Sand and granules slightly smaller are all caught, but ! I found as the freshened water returns into the pond, there is a residue returned.I was more interested in where I hoovered, as it sucked up oxygenators off the bottom that had sunk for winter.I went back to check the water return was okay and saw my pond looking like a mild brown colour. A very fine sediment must be returning and made a mess of the pond. However, the fish seemed to enjoy the disturbance and after a few hours the fine sediment was on the bottom and the water clearer.May leave it and not hoover again? So yeah, I’m guessing if sand wasn’t the issue of getting out of the pond, it would have held everything.

Sludge Bag - Like It, Hate It; But you'll likely need one.
Got a pond? Then there's sludge! Vac it out, spend yer dosh on a modest pond vac. that attempts to recycle water (not the sludge) back into the pond... So, you'll need a sludge bag. There you have a proverbial 'mixed bag' Cannot like it, cannot do without it... so score depending on mood is either 3 or 5... so I charitably settled for 4. Look, seriously, unless you can afford a gardener, this is a 'two handed' job, one to d the 'vaccing' and one to keep the 'equipment inc the sludge bag' under some semblance of control. The bag has to be 'tied-on' to the vac outlet and dangled precariously into the surface of the pond. Do Not let it overfill, it'll fall-off and deposit the sludge back where it just came from. Can u manage without it? On balance... NO! Just don't do this job if you are tired/ in a rush/ or in a bad mood... because otherwise Toys will have flying lessons. Give yourself and your 'helper' time to just do it carefully and slowly... and promise you won't get cross. Then you might get a beer in the pub later for a job well done.. The Bag? Oh, yup it's now waiting to be 'cleaned' before going back in the garage, couldn't face doing that as well, not all in one day. But... Just get one! It's a pain, but it's better with than without, mostly. After all it's only once/ twice per season unless you got real mucky-pups in your pond.

Pondvac Sludge Bag
Recently bought the pond vac itself and then decided to add the sludge bag, as the pond is quite bad. Used it today and very impressed. It caught all the semi dead blanket weed as the vac cleaned off the shelves and part of the bottom. Going to be a weekly job for a while, but these two pieces of kit make the job easy. Would definately recommend the bag ad well as the vac itself.

Good item for the right people, If I was you I would try without it, and see if you need it prior to ordering...
Not had good reason to use it and bought it because I thought I might put it to use but if you have a small pond and you want to return the water to the pond rather than just pump it out then its functional if expensive for what it is (a net curtain made into a bag). If I was you I would try without it, and see if you need it prior to ordering...

Sludge bag
Arrived on time - seems to filter out the larger sludge particles and debris but does let the smaller particles back into the pond making it cloudy for a time!

It does not however deliver clear water back to the pond as some reviews suggest it is at best very very cloudy and takes time to settle
This item worked well with the new pond vacuum in collecting large debris and sludge. It does not however deliver clear water back to the pond as some reviews suggest it is at best very very cloudy and takes time to settle. If you have no other option than return the water back to the pond you would need one but I would advise that if possible the pond water should go elsewhere.
