Great vibrant colors! A great light!
I have to tell you, I was very hesitant about purchasing these lights because of all of the negative reviews, but I decided to "risk" it and purchase two lights for my in ground 20K gallon pool. The packaging was horrible. No protection, for these very expensive lights, other than a bubble wrap on the side of the package. Top and bottom was put in a box that was as tall as the Pentair boxes. Amazon, you need to get this right, as I am not the first one to comment about this. LEDs are on a printed circuit board that is very susceptible to rough handling. Take a picture before you pull it out of the box of the outside, and when you open it, to see if packaging was adequate. I would have given the shipping container 1 star, but this is about the light-not the container they put it in . Pentair, you might want to check on Amazon's shipping practices of your lights to customers. I can tell you as an aviation electrician that works with LEDs and avionics that a few bad lights can actually be attributed to poor shipping and handling. Back to the light review.I purchased the 100ft light assembly because it was actually cheaper than the 50ft cord I needed. If you are not an electrician, I recommend you get one to install these lights so Pentair doesn't get a bad rap as an unreliable light assy- that is the first thing. I opted to pull out my old 500w Pentair with the full length cord so I can sell it to someone who needs it cheap, and use fish tape to pull the wiring through the conduit. This was done during the pool remodel. Hooking it up consisted of a hot, neutral, and ground. I cleaned the old niche and torqued the screw snug- don't overtighten! Use the stainless screw (provided) for new pool, or bronze for remodeled pool. I opted for the controller, because having a thousand + dollars worth of lights, I didn't feel like flicking light switches to get a particular show. Makes no sense. Get the controller, ( I spent 195 for it) and again, if you don't know what you're doing, you will mess it up. Install complete, grounds checked, power to circuit, GFCI checked, and it is time to "press the button." A vibrancy of colors abounded! Two lights lit up my pool just about right! Since my pool had a side light installation, the factory "wide beam" lens setting was good, and I didn't have to mess with rotating the lens. (The controller is the 600054 Intellibrite waterproof outdoor BTW) Flicking the settings through the light shows produced nice useable light through the settings, and the controller is so easy to work. you can hold and recall lightshows, on the display but I haven't used that feature yet. .The lights transition from color to color smoothly- a lot better than the Hayward I was looking at, because the Hayward transitioned like an abrupt slideshow. All in all, I am very happy with this light! The jury is out on the reliability, and I hope they last at least 8 years, because they aren't cheap! The replacement parts (yes I did my research) are almost as expensive as the light! Pentair, your light is wonderful, but please recognize the light replacement parts should not be so darn expensive! Especially when the warranty is only 2 years!(Remember, I had regular Edison light bulbs in it before, so anything is better than those bulbs!

Love the Brightness and the Mulitple "Shows" and SOlid Color Options
Installed myself. A little intimidating at 1st to snake a 100 foot cord. Cut old cord at old light and carefully connected 3 wires and tightly bound new wire in black electrical tape. Put Dawn dish soap in conduit and inserted high pressure hose. Also lubed new wire. Once I got it moving it slid easily and I was able to pull up the new cord still connected to the old. Rewired exactly as old. Grand kids love the transitions of color in Caribbean mode and fast moving colors of Party mode. Depending on your pool color, colors will vary. I did not add the $400 controller, just turn on light and then ON/OFF a number of times to get to the desired color or show mode. Just installed, a nice upgrade over the old standard white bulb. Note I would have tried for just a new LED bulb, but the old light would slowly allow water in. I decided to go for the whole new light and fixture. The LED in this light is impressive

Double check your voltage need - 120 volts versus 12 volts
I guess I can chalk this up to - leave electrical purchases up to the electrician. I purchased this light with the assumption having it say "pool light" that it would be just fine for my inground pool light replacement - WRONG. My pool guy installed it and cut the cord and it didn't work. I called an electrician to come and take a look and he stated that 120 Volts is TOO high and if it would ever fail, whomever was in the pool could be electrocuted. I guess my pool is wired for a 12 Volt light. Now the cord has been cut and I can't return this item. Be sure you double check your voltage needs prior to purchase! I guess I shouldn't fault the seller but would have been nice if more of an explanation was provided in the description of the item.

DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT BUY THIS PENTAIR PRODUCT!!!!!!
Purchased this pool light in May 2015 for $484 which I thought was outrageous but I was intrigued by the features. Installed it myself.Worked great for 6 months until 2 weeks ago. When I turn on and off my pool light switch the color does not change. It remains clear with no color. Also when I turn on the pool light switch the light is delayed turning on approximately 3 - 5 seconds before it iluminates. And of course the refund and/or replacement policy from the seller (Warehouse Deals) was only good until June 2015 I see now that I have a problem. Yep, I got screwed. One whole month of return for a nearly $500 light? LUDICROUS. I will be speaking directly to Amazon regarding this.I also contacted Pentair to try to obtain the one-year warranty claim for repair or replacement. Pentair says if you install a pool light yourself there is no warranty. There is nothing difficult nor challenging to install a pool light. It involves wiring and fishing cord through PVC plumbing pipe. What a slimy way to weasel out of a warranty claim.Way to stand behind your product Pentair. Just more Chinese made junk. I will never purchase any Pentair product again during this lifetime.
