GS405B - A Sturdy and Secure Folding Guitar Stand
Bought this to replace a stand that did not have a neck rest. I liked the GS405B design whereby the neck rest provides security at the front as well as the sides. I have other Hercules stands so was confident it would be a good design, sturdy and well made - which it is. The folding feet, upright support and the body and neck rests allows it to be stored upright in the corner of the room out of the way, pity there is no dust cover supplier (but the box can be re-used for storage). The way that the rest for the body and neck fold out and lock with the spring loaded sliding collets is very neat. I had not found any on-line videos demonstrating this stand and envisaged that the collets might be threaded and fiddly to use, but not so, they are very easy to use and practically work themselves. Not sure what the shoksafe security system is, guess it is basically the front section of the neck rest. There is a little bit if play between the sliding collets and the metal stems, but this is to be expected in order that the mechanism opens/folds easily. The spring loaded collets slide over and provide mechanical strength around the pivot joints - neat design. I looked at various instrument retailers and was surprised that not many listed this stand, but where it was listed they were more expensive taking postage into account. It was also more expensive on a well known auction site, so pleased with this stand from Amazon which arrived very quickly (two days ahead of schedule).

Very well made, does the job
Nice piece of kit, only downside is that you need to be careful when you slide the neck into the side gap on the neck retainer hoop, if you arnt careful you can bash the side of the fretboard against the hard plastic end caps. I'll probably put some additional protection in this area.

Solid, if a little unweildy
This is a cracking stand for the house, but i bought this to take to gigs. I have a jazz bass and while I love the portability of the gs402b, the jazz just doesn't sit right on it.When I got this in the mail, I thought it was over packed, the box was so big... Then I realised it's just a pretty big stand. Certainly not one I'll be throwing in my rucksack anytime soon!I find that when packed away, the hinges swing (especially the neck), so have used velcro to keep it secure in transport. As a stand, it's superb, cradling my guitar beautifully, so it would get 5 if that were the only factor. It looses a star due to the size and another due to it not staying securely closed.A bag would maybe of helped with this the latter? In overview, great for keeping in one place and occasionally storing, but without modification it's not up to using for gigging.

You Can't Go Wrong With Hercules Stands.
Bought this cos I ran out of stands for my guitars, so one more stand was needed. I already owned one of these stands so I knew what to expect. Pure quality. Solid and weighty, so the guitar is nice and safe. Well Recommended.

Product was in a good box, the size of a folded photographic tripod
Product was in a good box, the size of a folded photographic tripod. This was then in another box, the size of a fridge door with loads of those padded air bags, not being damaged in transit anytime soon! Once out of the bag, the feet folded out and locked automatically and so did the neck support. Ibanez SA fitted in snugly and strap looped over the upright at the back, then onto neck support for added security. Guitar slopes gently backwards to give a good balance. Came on time as promised...serious piece of kit but will fold up for transit use if required. Well impressed for money!

Excellent and robust. Great German Engineering.
Perfect for my Left Handed Gibson Les Paul :)

Works well
Works well, "Secure retention system" could be better as there is still a possibility that the guitar could be knocked off the stand hence only four stars but providing it is placed somewhere this is unlikely not a problem. We have two, one with a Strat and one with a Gretsch
