Perfect starter to MATLAB usage.
* Physical This book is around 400 pages long, and on good quality paper. There is no colour pictures or graphs. There are many screen shots in b&w greyscale. It has a good index to find your way around. * Target audience, A - level, / H.N.D, Undergraduate, Postgraduate? In my opinion, it's aimed as H.N.D or above. * What's the book like? This book is aimed at the beginner level of using this Matlab programming language. It covers the basics, and those who have little or no experience in programming at all will benefit the most from this approach. It's a good introduction to using this topic. Some stuff i enjoyed is how Matlab has progressed and evolved, such as error handling, printing, using math as known in H.N.D level in Matlab. The command line methods are very useful too. * Summary This book is a good read, but you need this book with you to decide what command to apply when writing the scripts in G.U.I and command line. To choose how to apply Matlab to produce useful scripts you need another book, how to use Matlab apply this book to help you.

As with most Dummies books, this does help understand the product. But, also as always, there is nothing like what you have to do to get to Carnegie Hall: Practice, Practice, Practice. But, I do recommend that if you're not going to take a formal class, try this.

Excellent book for starters, its like having a teacher next to you explaining the basics. I did my bachelor in economics and now i'm doing my masters in financial economics and there was a huge lack of programing software.. We started using matlab in financial econometrics and with absolutely no background. The teacher simply gives us the coding to run but whats the use if half of the class doesnt now how matlab works. This book is really simple to read and its very helpfull for starters to learn the basics of matlabs!
