Season after season our fingerless gloves are a favourite with our Johnstons of Elgin customers. Matching items available. Knitted in Scotland. Sizes: One Size. 100% Cashmere. Hand Wash. The ultra-fine fibre from the undercoat of the Cashmere (or Kashmir) goat is indeed a premium fibre - one that generally costs a good deal more than mere sheep's wool. Goats have outer coats that are thick and coarse; the softer, finer undercoats are used to make cashmere yarn. No animals are killed to make cashmere: The hair is collected when the animals shed. A goat only produces about 1.76 oz. (50 grams) of washed cashmere each year. A sweater usually weighs 5.29 to 10.58 oz. (150 to 300 grams). That's the cashmere from 3 to 6 goats! Furthermore, garment production requires more than 20 separate processes, special equipment, and a lot of labour. A Perfect Gift!
