Bought this to start an aquarium cycle off. It worked very well. There's none of the tell tale signs of there being anything other than ammonia in the solution. Based on the dosage I needed to reach about 2ppm (mg/l) of ammonia, I'd say that the strength is about 9.5%, due to the fact I needed 2.7ml to reach the concentration in my 120l aquarium. Now I just need to figure out what to do with the remaining 497.3ml of the stuff. Oh and don't be tempted to give it the whiff test, unless you like extremely unpleasant sensations in your nasal passages. Maybe go outside to pipette out some too :)

I am so pleased with this ammonia, much cheaper than aquarium specific ammonia used for a fishless cycle and just as good! In fact after using it for 5 weeks I still have plenty left for future use. My tank holds 145 liters of water, at first I assumed the strength was 7% but I ended up overdosing it and had to do a waterchange to bring the initial ammonia level down to around 3 or 4ppm. From here on in I assumed this was the full 9.5% and everything went smoothly for a few weeks. I then had a nitrite spike as I think I tried to speed my cycle up and got impatient and again, added too much. My nitrite was too high but ammonia was still being consumed within 12 hours. The unreadably high nitrite turned NT labs tests almost red. If using API test kit make sure to check before you shake, if the bottom of the test tube turns purple this is because the nitrite has become so high the test can't detect it and when shaken can appear lower when in fact it's not. Anyways to solve the nitrite spike I did 3 very large water changes until nitrite was around 0.25 to 0.5, I then spent the following week or so adding smaller amounts of this ammonia, testing after 24 hours, only increasing the dose when ammonia was 0 and nitrite either 0 or very close to. I continued until I reached my original dose amount. Guess what!? It worked!!! I now have a fully cycled tank with happy mountain minnows and me and the fish couldn't be happier 😊 I did worry at first if knockout ammonia was safe for fishless cycling, however it was recommended to me by more experienced fish keepers. I'm glad I got it because it's affordable and effective. This was my first time completing a fishless cycle from scratch, it's definitely a rewarding feeling when you reach the end 👍
